All the hype around Sanders' ground game the past couple weeks, and voter turnout didn't really budge if preliminary numbers are correct.

You can bet it going to take another major hit after this fiasco.

On top of that, something similar just happened with Labour over in the UK not even 3 months ago.

Maybe, but you've got a lot of people just saying dig in and on to New Hampshire. Like Sanders can't get totally hosed there too.

This seems to be true and its very worrying if so; what should be done about it? Is it just electoral politics or is it apathy in general?

Sanders' supporters came out (especially youths), it's the participation of the olds that fell.

The point is that it's not merely worrying, if it is worrying at all. The bourgeois electoral system is in crisis due to (at least) 20 years of constant bullshit... #BEB!!!

IIRC something like 30% of caucus-goers this year had never caucused before, so it's possible for Bernie's theory of voter activation to have been true, even if other demographics sat it out

and that's to say nothing of how we don't have full numbers yet (because the IDP hosed up!!!) and how some people were locked-out of being able to attend because of disinformation, shifting caucus locations, and a strict cannot-participate-after-7-PM rule

I didn't say huge. Anyway, I like to think that the erosion of confidence is something that accumulates over time. I think people today in general are a lot more cynical about US electoral politics than before 2000, for instance

the 2000 election is where a guy won the popular vote, had his ballots thrown away by the republican party and declared the loser and the supreme court agreed with the republicans. This is small scale by comparison.

Actually, if we look at Buttigeig's numbers:

He got 37,667 voters, which was 25% of the total, so the total was 150,668

but that's only 70% of precincts, so extrapolating the full count would give us 215,240 voters total

According to AP, 2016 had 170,000 votes

I understand your bloodlust, but the guilotine isn't about what people deserve, it's about what is best for society. One swift chop, and they're not our problem anymore. Anything more encourages bad instincts, which as socialists we should be principally opposed to structurally and personally

A conservative estimate is about 200k, so it's still better than 2016. Seems like the ground game did make a difference.

That's a good sign for the campaign and for the theory of mobilizing dormant or non-voters. It would be better if we were seeing at least 2008 numbers, but after Obama's many, many capitulations, it's understandable that people just aren't going to be that enthusiastic again.
