If several candidates join a dogpile, I think Mayor Pete is hosed. But these are Democrats we're talking about. It may well just be Bernie and Yang supporters grouching, while the others just lay down and die because they think it's dignified. Biden's camp is pressing the issue a little but I think they just want to confirm his result is as bad as it looks so he can drop out lol

It's not consistent with Declaring Victory when you'll just actually win eventually anyway. It makes more sense to me that it was all a scheme to allow him to declare victory for the low info voters regardless of whether he actually won while still being deniable as jumping the gun for the commentariat. If the app doesn't implode halfway through the real results aren't discovered until like a month later and would be squashed to protect the public opinion of the legitimacy of the whole thing

If the app DOES implode there's no discrepancy to bring up.

kind of hard to deny since this is maximal “Dems in disarray” + public incompetence + serious appearance of impropriety and no dem candidate is getting a boost/victory lap in this morning’s news cycle it is very likely to ultimately not matter at all, but in terms of potentially exploitable long and short term political/narrative advantages the story of the Iowa primary *thus far* does favor Trump over any Dem candidate/the party as a whole

If this is some kind of rigging I'm not sure how it was supposed to work. He could've falsified the results of the reporting app to get good press today, but every caucus site has paper ballots, and the tallies are signed off by 2 volunteers from the county party and representatives by each candidate, and the latter are also supposed to report the numbers directly to their campaigns. Plus anyone there can see the tallies and the math if they want to. The real numbers will come out eventually. You can't really rig a caucus. That's like the only good thing about it. If you've been at a caucus, everything about it is a clusterfuck. Nobody is trained right, and it's run by whoever is dumb enough to get roped into volunteering. Coincidentally, those are also the people who don't know how to use a smartphone even if they have one.

I tried to do a summary of what happened, both against the caucus in general and specifically with regards to Buttigieg and Shadow and ACRONYM, for the purposes of anyone who wants to explain to people what just happened and also wants to be able to post some sourcing to the claims. ___ On Monday night, Iowa had its caucus for the Presidential primaries, the first in the nation. No vote tallies were released by the official Democratic National Committee, because the new app that was being used to tabulate results crashed and was generally unusable for most of the night. As it became clear that the app would not be capable of providing results, the DNC held a press conference at 1 AM Central to announce that they would have to resort to looking up the paper records that were taken by each caucus precinct and tallying the results manually, which may delay the results until Tuesday or Wednesday. That same night, the Sanders campaign released their own internal tracking of the vote count based on 40% of precincts, which showed Senator Sanders with 29% of the vote former Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg in second place with 24% Senator Elizabeth Warren with 21% former Vice President Joe Biden with 12% Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar with 11% and everyone else at sub-1% (House Representative Tulsi Gabbard, billionaire Tom Steyer, businessman Andrew Yang) The next primary is slated for Tuesday, February 11, in New Hampshire, where Sanders is generally also expected to win big according to polling and past performance (he won NH by 22 points in the 2016 primaries against former Secretary Hillary Clinton). https://twitter.com/brianneDMR/status/1224586981851746304 https://twitter.com/HCTrudo/status/1224578194948468739 ___ The other story that's coming out of the caucus was Pete Buttigeig declaring victory in Iowa at 11:24 PM Central Standard Time, which was odd because the official results were still at 0 precincts reporting at the time. As journalists started digging into the company that developed the caucus app, not only was it identified to be a company named "Shadow", records show that the Buttigeig campaign had paid Shadow some 42,500.00 USD in July of 2019. The CEO of Shadow was identified to be Gerard Niemira, who previously held a leadership position at Hillary for America. Shadow's product manager, COO, and CTO were also identified via linkedIn and found to also have previously worked at Hillary for America. Greta Carnes, who has been the Buttigieg campaign's National Organizing Director since April of 2019, was found to have previously worked at Hillary for America from May 2016 to November 2016, and then later worked at ACRONYM from January 2018 to April 2019. ACRONYM is significant in that it is the company that owns Shadow. ACRONYM itself is headed by one Tara McGowan, who expressed support for the Buttigieg campaign back in January of 2019. https://twitter.com/PeteButtigieg/status/1224564353040625665 https://www.huffpost.com/entry/iowa-caucus-app-shadow_n_5e390191c5b687dacc722824 https://twitter.com/lhfang/status/1224572119549267968 https://twitter.com/taraemcg/status/1088071074468642818 https://twitter.com/WhereIsLawrence/status/1224572032781778945 https://twitter.com/WhereIsLawrence/status/1224572569401155584 https://twitter.com/StudioSpicy/status/1224585793152270336

He wasn't just jumping ahead of the official results without prompting, he was refuting the guy who WAS jumping ahead of the official results without prompting.
