Biden eating poo poo in Iowa probably doesn't even need to be widely publicised to take some information from; it confirms that so much of his support is only on paper, both from lovely polling and decreased turnout among his expected voters. Apparently the old people are staying home. (or likely voting for Trump)

Yeah, it delivers a serious blow to the illusion that he's the clear frontrunner and undermines confidence with donators and backers. And if narratives like "he didn't draw out old people" or "he didn't get unite people in the middle and right" develop it undermines a lot of his pitch.

And more, if that stuff's true then it should carry over and repeat itself. A headline hit for Biden wasn't gonna kill his campaign. He's in this thing until Super Tuesday and he'll be pushing to South Carolina.

I don't know that I see it that way. The SOTU was always going to take the narrative so any way you cut it Bernie's losing a day at most, and maybe even half that. If he wins then he'll be addressing the SOTU while talking about winning Iowa. The more important result of Iowa, besides the delegates, is the affect it has on the race. If Biden did as poorly as we think and Bernie did as well then its good for Bernie and bad for Biden. The people who seem like they could really lose out here are Buttigieg or Warren since if they managed to grab a win, or even a strong second they'll probably have that momentum lost to the SOTU and the "frontrunners". At least that's how I see it.

But for whatever its worth I didn't mean to call people "impatient". I meant it more that if it had just been established that we find out about caucus results the day after none of this would be a thing. Its the immediacy of the news cycle and the amplification of reactions that creates this kind of mess where (to paraphrase one poster in the primary thread) the stuff about structural mistakes and Buttigieg' coziness with the establishment are all mixed up with "CIA PETE STEALING ELECTION!" stuff.

I'm not going to watch the SOTU. I get lied to enough already. I don't needTrump to piss on my back and tell me it's raining.

When it comes to the stuff with Bernie, Buttigieg and the DNC; who didn't expect something like this?

Bernie getting sub-30% in Iowa isn’t a great start for a campaign trying to mobilize infrequent voters

I don't personally care about the "EPIC DNC FAIL" stuff since most of the people saying that stuff were saying things like it anyway. Barring some huge scandalous revelation this won't matter in a month except to the people for whom it advances their beliefs or agendas. At most it becomes an albatross to Buttigieg if that link to the app thing develops into something.

As I said, if Biden did terribly its gonna matter even if there aren't 12 hours of headlines about it.

I like this take right here, mostly cause I agree with it.

Yes, because the Republican Party wouldn't have been able to come up with a clever way to insinuate Democrats were incompetent otherwise.

Maybe the Democratic party could stop being so incompetent, would certainly make it harder to make those "insinuations".

More VA hilarity - republican puts forward bill to remove statue of democrat, VA Democrats say okay
republican says, “oh nm just kill it” and now the house leader is saying, “nah, not until you come on down and tell us on the record why you want to kill it bub”

One of the greatest things about state politics is this stuff right here. Inject it right into my veins. Lol when Gov Northam expanded medicaid the GOP negotiated with the Dems to put a work requirement on it, the trick is that the executive has to enforce that and after it passed Northam was just..."Nah, we arent going to do that and gently caress you."

They never saw that coming and couldnt do a drat thing about it lol.

Even if you’re not in a battleground state- the way the media and party will treat a winner with under 50% of the vote is going to be different from the way it treats a landslide winner.

Weird question, I was reading about the democratic primary history, and the DNC started staggering the primaries after the 1968 convention protests. What I can't find is why the 68 convention triggered this change in the primary process. Does anyone know or have a good article about why the primaries were staggered like this, in response to the 68 protests?
