This is a non issue. The app might have poo poo and full of holes but the reason they had to enable non trusted sources is to side load the app. Any app not in the Google store is technically not trusted. Now they probably really didn't want to put the app on the store because it's full of holes but keeping a small distribution of the app is a valid reason to avoid publishing it too. And enabling it is as easy as Go to menu, enable, click the install link that totally didn't come from a Chinese phishing campaign.
