Yo STR, is your GF's name Karen? Too bad you don't have a manager. My first real car's OEM battery lasted 9 years (Motocraft in a V6 Mustang) and it would've held on another year if the brake light switch hadn't failed and left the brake lights on while parked, eventually setting the switch on fire, during a desperate drive home from California when an extra stop meant failure and being stranded. Since then I have murdered many batteries, and never found such life again. E: I am so loving lucky my GF doesn't blame me for the brake failure I caused by not torquing her caliper bolts properly, and she is totally cool with me doing her brakes again, now that her rear pads are wearing down. For a long time I conspired to put a computer in the trunk of that car and spent way too much time on mp3car[.]com which at the time was a great site and also had a bunch of people figuring out how to use serial VFD displays to show what song was playing. There was a dude on there with a 300zx turbo that made a custom fiberglass housing for a touchscreen display in his dash. Cool poo poo. /end random rant

I did a bad and convinced the missus that she must have run over something and that's why her splash guards started dragging. It had absolutely nothing to do with a half dozen or so rusty screws snapping off and me being too lazy to drill out and replace more than 2. No sir, she ran over something. Joke's on me, I have to fix all the poo poo that's aggressively rusting to death under her car Yikes. Would it be a bad time to tell her that if she bought a higher quality battery, it might still be under warranty?

But yeah, I've been trying to get her to do poo poo as basic as just changing spark plugs for a year now. "Oh, I'm sure <chain lube place> would tell me if I needed that, I've been going there for 15 years!". I did the last oil change because she didn't have time to get it done, and she's been questioning how I did it so cheap. Easy - Walmart carries the OEM Toyota filter for $6. Walmart carries 5 qts of 5w30 high mileage for $25. Tremek posted:VFD clocks are great. VFD is great so long as it's not Toyota. I remember those clocks in both of my 88 Accords. I think my 91 Integra had one too. 95 Civic had a hole for one; I ebayed the clock module and found the plug behind the dash (it was an EX, pretty sure it was supposed to have it anyway). The Toyota ones have issues with solder joints; they also have a conformal coating, so it's a little more involved than just touching up joints. Not a lot more involved, just an extra few minutes of cussin. An old coworker had a Clarion WinCE head unit (in a Fiero, of course!) with a lot of custom poo poo. Amazingly, we still use WinCE at work.

So the verdict is in. Mums Merc is McFucked but insurance paying out in full. Estimated $28k dollarydoos in engine/electrics damage. Now parents are arguing over what to get. They always have one 'fun/nice' car and one beater utility car. It was stepdads go last time with an Alfa Romeo he loved it, mum hated it. Then mum got the Merc, she loved it, he hated it. Meanwhile their little old Honda Integra has outlasted everything for over 15 years, scooters and motorbikes included. I'm being devils advocate to both of them. He loves OG NSXs and she loves Audi Stationwagons.

poo poo how much money are original NSXs going for these days though? I know a dude who bought one maybe 5 years ago, high mileage for £28k and that was super cheap... I imagine you're not getting much change from double that these days.
