Yeah. That should be seen as a bad look but I don't even know if it will be. Should be telling that the 2 other British politicians I see on there are David Willets & Francis Maude, a couple of Tory Ministers under Pig Fucker

On giving councillors more power: this sounds like a good idea except for the part where the councillors are unambiguously, no contest, the worst people in the party. It's where everyone with ambition but no skill or conviction ends up. That might change if they got to actually do something, but I'm making my support conditional on rounding up the current crop and firing them into the sun first.

The problem with councillors is that they are part time jobs demanding full time commitments if you in power for pituful salaries. Cut the number, increase pay.

Honestly the number of people in the UK who know what the Trilateral Commission is is so negligible that it won't make a difference. You'd have to explain to them why it's bad first and then you gotta talk Kissinger and most people don't know who he is either.

It's a bad look but not a winner for the leadership.

"People in the UK" isn't the electorate here, though. "Labour party members who are involved enough in politics to vote in the leadership election" is, and those people are much more likely to know what socialism and Kissinger are.

Jameela Jamil is pretty solidly Correct on most social issues, but as ever, she's rich, so she's imperfect and prone to a lens of privilege. I didn't know she'd come out, but it's not even slightly surprising.

Not to get all nit-picky, but she's still the MSP for Dumbarton.

As for the second bit...ascribing the myriad causes and effects of 40ish years of post-industrial decline and the cultural, economic and political failure to deal with it "almost entirely" on a Scottish Labour, who besides anything else were in power at Holyrood for less time than the SNP have been, is a hell of a take.

I've heard the right to stand your ground against fetuses one before but I thought that was just libertarians being libertarian. :911:

The work one is the most socialist, pregnancy is work, going into labor is work, that's why they call it that, and if judged by the standards of other work it would be incredibly dangerous and underpaid, and you can't demand anyone finishes a job. You can sue, but you can't hold someone captive without the ability to quit.

I read the article, and it does seem like something a little... post facto justificatory... but still not really surprising. I don't think there's ever going to be a case where coming out in response to something except maybe like... pride month, or one of the awareness days, or whatever... will seem like anything but a post-facto justification.

It sucks that it seems that way though; the fact that queer peoples' narratives are always 'assumed to be straight until explicitly stated otherwise, and sometimes even then' in these situations is kind of a problem.

It's because the British liberal class balk at the idea of someone using lethal force to defend their home environment (whether owned or rented), but are fine with an absentee landlord evicting an unworthy tenant who later dies.

If you own a house in which people can live, you own a home, and are a homeowner. It's impossible to be a landlord without owning a home, at least in part.

Also they're assets, not homes. Some of them are aggressively far from being homely, where the whole point is to stop you feeling like you belong there so you won't complain too much when they turf you out.

You can illegally sub-let. You rent a flat with a double bedroom (so you are not a homeowner). You then sub-let the double bedroom to 4 Romanian girls while kipping round your girl/boyfriend's place thereby making twice as much rental income from the illegal sub-let as you are paying the landlord.

I personally know this happens.
