Maybe Vince leanred a lesson from last time? XFL 1.0 tried to be IN YOUR FACE EXTREEEEEEEEMMMMMEEEEEE and seemed like they tried to do things just to be different and edgy.

I think outside the initial "our players won't kneel!" poo poo, they've been making the right steps and good decisions

He must've, I mean it isn't the 90s anymore. Definitely this version is meant to be a more traditional spring league with some innovative rule changes. No one wants a football league crosses with "pro wrestling". Just do the football.

In fact, in some ways it seems like they're trying to protect the players more even than the NFL does, unlike last time where they designed rules specifically to get dudes smashed

This I hate because there will be a lot of unconverted attempts leaving the score a multiple of 3.

And multiple of 3 means teams are more likely to settle for Field Goals.

Make a touchdown worth 7, then you can go for 2 or 3.

I think the XFL wouldn't have survived the negative PR if they tried to up the hits like last time, especially after Benoit.

You make a fair point. I could see that. I guess we'll see how it works.

I don't think they'll settle for FG's when it would take 2 possessions to equal the TD, and that doesn't seem to be a viable strategy, but I could also be an idiot talking out of my rear end.

I think its more that like XFL was born out of the "gently caress kneeling/respect the flag/NFL is for pussies" bullshit but then they brought a bunch of football people in and were like "ok, design an alternative." So you get contradictions like kickoff rules designed to protect the players but also the "real football, this would be a penalty in the NFL" stuff.

Yeah, I like this better. With the PATs right now, it doesn't make sense to ever just go for 1.

I think it *could* succeed. There's room for a D league, so to speak. It will never even be 1 percent as big as the NFL but I think it could stick around if you have the right football and business people.

What would really be funny is if it was actually completely scripted, complete with dramatic interludes where players confront one another and spotlights and weapons come down
