I think the trick to Yakuza games is to play on easy so you can concentrate on the story, do only as many side activities as you like and skip those you don't enjoy/suck at. Also don't start a game and then let it rest for too long or you will lose immersion factor.

I went to several dbz card game tournies as a kid, did bad in all of them, then watched the one adult man that showed up and won because he had every card make lopsided trades with kids.
