Yeah, really not trying to be edgy. I’ve only heard good things. The acting is just meh, and Cavill’s line delivery is a bit eye rolling. I get that’s part of him being a Witcher or w/e, but I digress. Maybe I just expect Game of Thrones level of quality/set pieces with it all. I’ll definitely slog through the whole thing eventually, and get around to the game Switch version would be cool but I already have the PS4 version, plus graphics

If you haven't played the games then the delivery and tone of Cavill's character will make absolutely no sense. As will most of the universe in it. Or alternatively read the books I guess.

Is there much overlap between the game/show? Or just the universe?

I haven't gotten through the games yet, but the show so far seems to have covered the short stories that take place before the beginning of the book series proper, and also covers the beginning of the first book.

The Netflix show basically follows the novels, with the show writers adding more of their own worse flavor as it progresses. But I've both read the books and played the games, so I'm doomed to be insufferable about any changes.

Yeah the show is about the books, but the characters are incredibly similar to how they're portrayed in the games, which take place after the books. The nature of the games also lets you absorb the universe a bit better I would say. Cavill is a huge nerd that loves the Witcher games and had his agent call Netflix every day when there was rumors of them exploring the idea of making a show.

Aside from the whole Superman thing, Cavill’s life being a split between being a huge video game nerd and spending his time getting as jacked as his favorite characters so he can play them in movies or TV seems like pretty great.

Game of Thrones is adult fantasy for people who want to be taken seriously at the water cooler. The Witcher is a Saturday morning cartoon. Vastly prefer The Witcher.

The first few episodes are dour and slow, but it picks up pretty well from there. I played the games, gf didn't, we both enjoyed the show. I liked how it didn't take itself all that seriously. Wasn't the next GOT, but it wasn't trying to be either.

I would recommend reading up on what happens in Witcher 1, playing Witcher 2, and then dedicating approximately 120 gaming hours or more to Witcher 3. I just finished the main storyline for my second playthrough. Going to do the DLC starting tomorrow and then maybe NG+

Jaskier/Dandelion has always been hilarious to me because it's like everyone knows he's a hack but him. And everyone but Geralt humors him.

I enjoyed the show well enough. But yeah like Godholio said the start was kinda meh for me.

Wooo. Logged into gta5, got my little bonus, then won the Oppressor motorcycle in the casino. Jump bike flying all over the city now. Riding an empty train car around the map, shooting random NPCs, losing the cops every tunnel. Feels good.

You are right, all the thinkpeices got it wrong, it's not the next GOT. My Galaxy brain take is that it is the next Adventures of Hercules / Xena Warrior Princess. I put 30 hours into Witcher 3 last year, watching this is gonna make me go back for another 90.

I finally started witcher 3 yesterday. It's not my cup of tea. Just doesn't interest me in the slightest. I figured as much, poo poo like lords and swords, magic and medieval fantasy, never catch or keep my attention. Controls and graphics and all that jazz are great, just not interested in any of the plot stuff at all. Glad it's on game pass so I didn't have to shell out $20. I spent most of last night chasing bison and deer around on the bavarian map (can't remember the spelling) in theHunter. I'm sure that sounds like peak boredom to plenty though. I ran into a few small packs of bison (3-5 each) that just absorbed every .270 and .357 round I had. Took down 7 or so bison in total, but averaged about 6 rounds per to take them down. Thinking about buying the cheaper lever gun but should probably wait until after I get something more substantial.

I'm going to wait on cyberpunk when it drops. Well, wait longer. It'll hit game pass eventually. Not to make a poo poo comparison, but I've always been more of a Fallout kind of guy over Elder Scrolls. A lot of that just has to do with the disconnect of reality from fantasy and my mind doesn't want to bridge it. I can get lost in post-apocalyptica for days, never the case for anything remotely medieval aimed. So I'm probably just going to shoot more animals while wandering around in the woods today.

Aw yeah, Jedi: Fallen Order has just the right amount of jank to make the Dark Souls formula incredibly frustrating. Love getting hit by an enemy that glitch warps a hundred feet and sends my camera spinning around.

The Hunter is a fun and cool chill rear end game. I probably have 90 hours or so in it and bought a little bit of DLC when it was on sale. I haven't hunted in real life since I was a kid but it's a lot of fun to walk around in the wilderness and shoot something every 30 minutes. The only thing that seems really broken is duck hunting. I tried that poo poo for hours and I've never seen ducks in a lake like ever. On occasion I have shot them down out of the sky but it doesn't matter where I've looked I can't find them on the ground.

That’s weird, because I see mallards all the time on most lakes on Layton. All you need is the .22 (DLC) and the 4-8x scope, and you can pick them off at a couple hundred meters from the opposite side of the lake.

Not sure if I would have preferred 100% button mashing fun for the new Star Wars game vs souls-lite or w/e Only a few hours in, need to get through it, haven’t been playing video games much at all anymore. Am I officially old?

I haven't had trouble with ducks. The physics get really weird when you slam into a boulder coming down a hill at 30kph. Launched myself several hundred meters from my ATV earlier. Traipsed all around the Bavarian map, found all the blinds and stands, all the codex poo poo except probably some antlers or relics.

I've been splitting my time between CoD: MW and Dirt Rally 2.0. Really like the new CoD, I wish they would give a few more filter options or have dedicated servers or something. Dirt Rally has been fun, wish it had a tutorial though, I haven't played a serious racing sim since GT2, and there is a whole lot online about how to actually play the game.

I’m not playing another Dirt game until they add the in-game rewind feature again. I get the stakes are much higher & realistic, but when you gently caress up your perfect run right at the end, ugh Did they add that feature back yet
