The ways the American elites keep the lowly urban peasant quiet:

2) US basically have subsidized and very cheap corn/gas. And the US make every food from corn and from very loosely governed GMO cheap food.
3) controlling the media, this is really important. Thats why nobody in American is even talking about medical reform even though its not written into the constitution. Instead we have very stupid battles about gun laws and gender politic between two very similar right wing parties

Even in the west, if you disable location tracking/gps, while it stops giving apps location data, the phone itself still gets it and passes that onto manufacturer/service providers who absolutely pass it onto authorities if requested.

Lol, a few days ago I posted in this very thread about how SARS spread in Hong Kong through lovely apartment building drains.

New York Times posted:

Hong Kong officials evacuated and quarantined dozens of residents of an apartment building after two people living on different floors were found to be infected with the coronavirus, the authorities said on Tuesday.

The two cases appeared to suggest that the virus had spread through the building, perhaps through a pipe, raising new fears about the virus’s ability to spread.

Officials from the city’s Center for Health Protection said the decision to partially evacuate the building was made after the discovery of a unsealed bathroom pipe in the apartment of a newly confirmed patient, a 62-year-old woman. She lives 10 floors below a resident who was earlier found to be infected.

Yup. The father of my sister's best friend died because the surgeons left a sponge inside of him after operating. It should've been a pretty routine surgery.

The pipe goes down a large shared shaft in the middle of the building. There's a 1cm hole about ceiling level above which aims right for our window sill.

Medical insurance chat:

I have had a lot of experience with the medical system here in a European capital over the past two years (essentially all levels of severity, many dozens visits), so I feel qualified.

1. You can book appointments for GPs usually on the same day (because there are many in a city). You'll have to wait, but that's just the overrun from prior patients. Say, you have an appointment at 1pm. Then, you'll probably have to wait from 5 to 30 minutes. For my GP next door, it is generally also sufficient to show up without appointment, but then you are served by order of arrival (they have appointment days and non-appointment days). Then you may wait some more, like 1-2 hours. But again, you can always use an online tool to just book an appointment somewhere.
Not ideal. Perhaps this is better in the USA where they may see you straight away in any case.

2. Specialists which you book yourself: You can usually find something within a week. Depending on what you need, often same day (dentists, for example). The only exception I have experienced was radiologists, which are often fully booked. Nevertheless, I was able to find something within the city (up to 1h travel time) within a week. However I can see how for some specialists, and during certain times, it'll be more difficult. Like one months, two months for a radiologists I could see (although I was always more lucky for some reason). Or other old people stuff like orthopedics maybe? Don't know. But 6 months? Then you are doing something wrong.

3. Serious poo poo (e.g. cancer). Here, you are sort of pushed into a "system". Once it is diagnosed, things are scheduled for you. So for example if an operation is necessary, then they make this happen right away. These cases seem to be ordered by priority. In my case, I thought that things suddenly moved extremely fast (like major operation within 3 days, even without immediate danger to life). At that point, you'll be in a hospital so they take care of timing. But even beforehand, things move fast if they need to (across a network of doctors).

4. You can always go to the emergency room of a hospital. Doing this leads to them doing a mini diagnosis at the reception. If you have anything that can reasonably wait, they give you something for the pain and let you sit down for whatever time it takes. I have waited up to 3-4 hours on a Sunday in the ER with a non serious condition. I have also seen people transported off to treatment straight away.

My experience was that looking for appointments for non-serious issues can be annoying and time consuming. The more quickly you need it, the more places you need to consider online or call. That sucks and may be better in the USA.
But reason for that is that it is ordered by severity. When requiring serious care, things move much faster. This seems to be a deliberate trade-off.

If you really want to visit the closest GP, and the closest specialists to your location, then I can see how long wait times come about. I think its stupid, but if you are an old or something, that may be the case.
In the USA you'll probably have an easier time, as less people visit doctors and there's money involved?

The advantage here is that it's essentially free.
The stuff I am talking about would have easily bankrupted me and my family for generations if I'd actually had to pay for it (extensive hospital stays, expensive radiology, operations, specialists, long term diagnosis and treatment).
I paid like 60 Euros total over two years.

Lastly, the idea that you should pay for the ICU is ridiculous. Nobody "goes" to the ICU for fun. By definition, it's life threatening. Why would you have to pay for that?

A Holland America cruise ship with more than 2,200 people aboard was denied entry to Thailand on Tuesday over fears that passengers may be carrying the dangerous coronavirus, bringing the total number of ports from which it has been turned away to at least five.

The ship, the Westerdam, which departed from Hong Kong on Feb. 1, has already been turned away at ports in at least five countries, including the United States territory of Guam, the Philippines and Japan.

Thailand, which has reported more than 30 cases of the virus, had earlier agreed to let the ship dock in Bangkok on Thursday.

But the public health minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, posted a cryptic message on Facebook on Tuesday saying, “I have issued orders. Permission to dock refused” with a cruise ship emoji.

Holland America has said that no one on board has come down with the virus.

“The ship is not in quarantine and we have no reason to believe there are any cases of coronavirus on board despite media reports,” Holland America said in a statement issued Monday.

Enjoy your forever vacation on the plague ship Burt. You'll either die of the coronavirus or die of old age waiting for a safe harbor to dock in.

In Germany Uni is literally free, and you can get a loan that you only have to pay 50 percent of, capped at 10k, if your parents can't support you. The capped at 10k doesn't means you don't get more than 10k, that's just the maximum amount you have to pay back.

You do pay some semester fee between 100 and 500 euros, but that is usually just to cover your free public transport, sometimes including train tickets through an entire state.

E: Getting a place as a doctor at a uni is almost impossible though, and many need to go to private unis that cost between 5 and 10k per semester, but if you've got perfect grades and are lucky you could become a doctor absolutely debt free.

Yeah true, I studied in FL and we paid a bit more than 100 euros when I finished. In bigger cities or in the south people pay a few hundred generally though.

All the BOOHOOO about being sued also comes from the fact that being medically made right after a botched procedure costs money. Most people who are the victims of medical malpractice get barely more than enough than is necessary to fix themselves back up.

It’s the same hot McDonald’s coffee bullshit - seems frivolous when a right winger talks about it, then you learn that the coffee fused her labia shut and she only asked for medical bills and was initially denied.

And some sort of single payer system basically takes away the need for most malpractice lawsuits. If the follow-up care required as a result of a mistake is already paid for, the only relevant lawsuits are when the doctor is being outright negligent.

I need to point out here that europe is not a country, and at least where I live you actually can not book appointments with specialists. You see a GP and they book it for you if they agree it's necessary. Dentists you can obviously book yourself but that's not a specialization it's just a dude shoving poo poo in your mouth, and completely different from medical.
