It's neat, but comparing it to actual sprinters is kinda stupid. It's like bull riding announcers talking about how the bulls are gifted athletes (I'm pretty sure I really heard this a couple of times).

In a way, they are. They collect stats on each bull just like baseball players. I think I've even seen trading cards.

Every generation of bulls is theoretically tougher and stronger than the one before.

Whale sharks are much bigger when you're next to them than they appear in these pictures. The size of a small bus. You look back and see the tail longer than you are tip to tip churning effortlessly back and forth through the water and know that if it hits you, you'll be extremely wrecked.

That said they're very peaceful and this lady was cruising along at 2-3 miles an hour, which doesn't sound like much until you try to keep up. Amazing once in a lifetime experience.

I did this in Holbox, and it was great but there were WAY too many boats out there. It�s a little unnerving trying to pay attention to the sharks and the dozen spinning propellers around you. But one of the sharks tapped me with its tail fin that was like as big as I am and it was amazing.

La Paz has a hard limit of 14 boats allowed into the sanctuary at one time. In the busy season you can wait for hours for your boats turn to go in, but since it's February we only had to wait like 20 minutes.

There's also a large part of the sanctuary where no boats are allowed, so if a shark is feeling harassed it has somewhere to retreat to.
