Ah, but it's missing bonus dystopian points unless it (a) is a subscription service; (b) only works when online; and (c) records and uploads all nearby conversations as part of a modern business analytics strategy.

Cheech and Chong's official Facebook page is sharing memes with fake URLs in them in a complex money laundering scheme to funnel money from fake dating sites to an aerospace startup in order to make the company eligible to bid on NASA Moon lander contracts.

The Verge posted:

In December, online coding bootcamp Lambda School quietly partnered with Edly, a digital marketplace that helps schools sell income-sharing agreements (ISAs) to accredited investors. The arrangement allows Lambda to receive money from the ISAs upfront, rather than waiting for students to find jobs. But it also flies in the face of the values Lambda typically espouses: namely, that ISAs align its incentives with the goals and aspirations of the students...

Lambda's ISAs promise an alternative to traditional student loans by allowing students to defer tuition until they've landed a job that pays $50,000 a year or more. When that happens, they hand over 17 percent of their income until the $30,000 tuition is paid off. If students don't find work within five years of completing the program, the ISA is automatically dissolved. It's a business model that allows Lambda to brag about investing in students — which, in many ways, it still does. The school provides living stipends and even housing to some students who need it. But reselling ISAs muddies the narrative a bit since Lambda can make money long before students find jobs.

I'm not sure how this is supposed to work. FaceID doesn't go by what you look like but rather the 3 dimensional map of the shape of your face.

I'm pretty sure Samsung (and any other device other than the Pixel 4) just go by a photograph but this isn't going to fool a depth sensor.

The sensor is capable of discerning the difference, but it may be close enough for the software.

Many people complain about false negatives. Few are in a position to complain about false positives.

Eh, it's possible that they haven't tested the idea with any phone, because they haven't had any masks made yet - the website is just stock photos of faces overlaid on stock photos of masks without any warping (look at the second closeup). If this is just an attempt to grift investors that doesn't plan to ever make a working product, I guess it's fine

Having a platform for asynchronous communication with actual friends and family is cool and good. Thing is, you can achieve that with grouptext or even just good old fashioned USPS mail.
