Does anyone realise trauma years after it has passed? I think I've told this story before, and I've always had it as a wide open grin sort of story. When I first went to uni a friend who I had known from school popped round and said (shitfaced) "Joe, don't worry. It's not your looks. It's your personality that puts girls off". And despite how I've always played it for laughs as a funny "ahaha aren't students poo poo" I was chatting with my therapist and kind of realised "Oh wow, that actually serves as a pretty good jumping off point for how my mental health got this bad".

Goddammit I watched that show FAR too much up to 10 years or so ago, to the point where I could laugh at purely visual gags from the other room and I can't help but feel that the homophobia and transphobia of it had a lasting impact I'm still trying to tease out from my brain.

Yeah sometimes, like today it just hit me that my "best" friend when I was a kid was a real piece of poo poo who took advantage of the fact that I didn't have many friends when I was 13/14 to steal a bunch of my games and just be kind of lovely, I remember once his dad made fun of the fact that when my mum took me and his son out for the day to Thorpe Park or wherever we had to get the train instead of driving because my mum couldn't afford to learn to drive. I hadn't thought about that in general for years and the "his dad making fun of my single mums financial situation" part only hit me today cause I was thinking about how I'm now 10 years older than my mum was when she had me and how I'm just about financially solvent now haha. What a piece of poo poo. Some of the games he stole are expensive as gently caress now as well so that just rubs salt in the wound today.
