Finished the Canoness from the Sisters box set over the weekend. Swapped the head with one from the new squad box that I picked up from a bits store. Would've almost wanted to paint something more from that box but never had the opportunity to get anything else.

No idea if that made any real difference though. After that its Zandri Dust, Seraphim Sepia and Ushabti Bone Drybrush.

New grey knights are cool as hell. It’s a little lame that they made the HAMMER of titan probably the most sneaky and ‘hide in terrain’ style army in the game, ravenguard go home. They also gave them made them disgustingly resilient which is more thematically appropriate, but lol deathguard.

I really want to play more games with my Grey Knights to get a feel for when to use convergence or escalation and the stratagems etc, but it's frustrating being able to play a game once every 2/3 weeks. The obvious followup sniper scout conversion, using an Incursor head and this sniper rifle conversion. (Not my pic.) Which is a bit tricky. I don't think I like him as much as I like the other one. He's okay, though. Probably a contributing factor is that this is a bad pose and it didn’t work the other time I tried it either and I need to stop trying to make this pose happen because it’s not going to happen. Fingers crossed ForgeWorld comes through with that recon armor and it's sufficiently plain that any White Scar iconography can be shaved off and I never have to do anything with these ideas. Crisis suit questions: 1. Did anything change with the models between the old chunky 4th edition sculpts and what's out today? If so, are bits still compatible? 2. What's a good base size for them? Getting some off eBay without bases and I don't do flying bases for anything lmao 3. Is there much of a difference between regular suits and commander suits in terms of the model? Like is it just a head swap?

Stephenls posted:Fingers crossed ForgeWorld comes through with that recon armor and it's sufficiently plain that any White Scar iconography can be shaved off and I never have to do anything with these ideas. We haven't seen a single hint of the Falcon's Claws yet, but FW has been steadily checking off the WS and BA units from book VIII. We're really only missing them and the Khan at this point. The Khan'll be a while though since he will likely require two models to account for his jetbike option. Qin Xa was shown at LVO which only leaves a couple of other named characters. When they do the Claws, I'm sure there'll be a more generic version in the pipeline. They basically have to develop that first before they can layer lightning claws and White Scars doodads on top. Whether such a kit would have the full suite of scout options is another matter. FW's still FW and capricious at best. I was genuinely surprised when the Dark Angels' terminators dropped, I figured they were months away. We haven't had the usual Weekender previews this year so no one really knows what FW's up to right now.

goose willis posted:Crisis suit questions: 1. I dunno, probably. Guns should still work, I wouldn't assume anything else does. 2. 50 mm. 3. Head swap and number of possible guns/equipment. Crisis Suits have three hardpoints for guns/EW gear, Commanders have four. That's for Crisis Suit Commanders. There are bespoke Commander Suits (Enforcer and Coldstar) that are bigger and get you an extra wound/extra wound plus ludicrous speed.

Safety Factor posted:Oh man, I didn't mean to.get your hopes up like that. Well, as I said, fingers crossed. Fixed the pose. What I've learned from that experience -- aside from the fact that you just can't do the scope-to-the-eye sniper pose thing with these plastics if it means tilting the gun, it looks dumb and doesn't work, which I should have known already, is that the key to this particular conversion is the silhouette of the head and shoulders. As long as they read as a scout profile rather than a marine profile, the eye just ignores all the evidence that the dude is just a Phobos body with some bit swaps and a missing pauldron. Raise a weapon higher than the shoulders and interfere with that profile, though, and the effect is spoiled. Good to know. Stephenls fucked around with this message at 07:11 on Feb 18, 2020 |

For Tyranids, what seems better? Adaptive Physiologies or Warlord Traits? In addition, is there any combo of Blood of Baal custom traits that is better for fast melee than Hivefleet Kraken, or does Kraken still reign supreme there?

The Adaptive Psychologies seem worth giving up a Warlord Trait for. Some of the things you can give to other units make them pretty absurd, of course no Space Marine broken. Kronos got a big boost in Blood of Baal, but I still have trouble making melee work so I've been debating trying anything other than Kraken.

Dermic Symbiosis is fantastic, and many other options are good. If you want to play around with melee Nidzilla then custom hive fleet traits are worthwhile. The free wound regen and +1 to hit traits on big bugs make a big difference, especially on the WS4+ ones. However if you're mostly using 'stealers and other infantry, Kraken is still the way to go.

xtothez posted:Adaptive Physiology everyday. Dermic Symbiosis is fantastic, and many other options are good. Makes sense. I can lay out my starting 1,000 points if it helps make my current setup more clear (which isn't too complex a list, basically the two Start Collecting boxes and some additions): HQ: Flyrant with rending claws and the Miasma Cannon artefact. Broodlord on Genestealer babysitting duty. Troops: 16 Genestealers 22 Termagants with Devourers 3 Ripper Swarms Heavy Support: Trygon Prime (generally carrying the Devourers) Fast Attack: 3 Shrikes (because the Warriors and the wings I'm taking from the Gargoyles to turn them into gants have to go somewhere). With Kraken as is, I can panic-scuttle the Termagants with a big advance if need be and more importantly rocket the Genestealers right into melee. Its honestly hard to imagine what setup tops that. As for Physiology, I'm currently figuring the Flyrant would be the warlord. Is Dermic Symbiosis worth it on a unit that already has the invulnerability save? Or should I flat out consider other physiologies for this list?

For this army you'd probably get more benefit from either Monstrous Size or Dermic Symbiosis on the Trygon. Either makes it pretty nasty.

Giving it some big staying power to dissuage charges against the Gants seems like it'd be really helpful. I know there's a stratagem for giving another unit a Physiology. Should that go to one of my other big units, or should I buff up the Genestealer or Termagant mob?
