I hope they actually listen to the mountain of feedback they received on the demo. If they don't, it's going to be complete poo poo.

This is neat. I had a lot of fun in Gothic 2 a couple years back. It holds up surprisingly well, except that the controls are really goddamn weird. I guess the games were made before there was really a consensus on how mouse/keyboard is supposed to work Edit: The Joe Man posted:I hope they actually listen to the mountain of feedback they received on the demo. lets hang out posted:??? i didn't know about any of the special moves when i first beat the game. i was also playing on ps4 and most of them don't work on a dpad anyway. you don't need them for anything other than speedrunning or sequence breaking More power to you, but that game had the least enjoyable movement of like... any game I remember playing in recent years to begin with, so the idea of being stuck with only the most basic maneuvers is even less appealing.

I'm about 80% of the way through Elex, they have learned nothing. I mean whats the point of replacing janky with janky. While Elex isn't a horrible game, the controls are plain poo poo along with the menus. Also at like level 2 you can run into level 30 creatures on your first mission in the wilderness.

Piranha Bytes have been working on a mystery RPG (likely Elex 2 based on some financial filings) that they're supposed to be announcing this year and they've said they aren't involved with the Gothic remake. I wouldn't preorder anything from a brand new studio THQ Nordic stands up. Also Elex is good. https://twitter.com/Piranha_Bytes/status/1206891990257983488 Hub Cat fucked around with this message at 03:47 on Feb 20, 2020 |

The Joe Man posted:I hope they actually listen to the mountain of feedback they received on the demo. Yeah. I'm actually surprised they went through with it since the demo was terrible in every way. I don't think they can get the charm of 1/2 back though and this will be more something between Arcania and G3. Not even Piranha managed to get the kind of atmosphere in Risen or Elex.

I just started playing The Outer Wilds, it's great but I've noticed it doesn't feel smooth. I mean it's running at 60+ fps, usually 100+, but when I walk around my movement feels kind of stuttery. I can't tell if that's just the engine or if there's something I can change do to improve it. Any ideas?

Pigbuster posted:Holy crap World of Horror is out in 9 hours, aaaaaaaaa this snuck up on me so hard It's coming out in in Early Access for 15 dollars. The game is content complete, it's just bug fixing, adding translations and adding some post-release content. There's actually a short demo on itch.io if you'd like to give it a try. Also Taur looks like neat. Has anyone jumped on it already? I've been playing Project Warlock lately, and I have to admit the game gets better and better the more you play it. Sure, it'll probably not have the longevity of DOOM, but if you wanted to shoot some monsters, you'll get hooked on it. The moment to moment action is satisfying, and the levels fly by quickly. The only problem is that since the game does things slightly differently than other games of this type, it might feel weird playing it at first. I've beaten it and I'm now going through Hardcore - that's when the game really comes together into something memorable. If I had known Distance had such a creepy campaign, I would have fired it up a long time ago. It also helps that the driving mechanics are excellent.

How does ELEX stand in the Gothic 1, Gothic 2 and Risen rankings? For reference I replayed G1 & 2 multiple times and enjoyed Risen, but not enough to finish it.

Elex is a game about flying where you're not supposed to be yet to get the gear you won't be able to use for another ten hours. But it sitting there in your pocket between 2500 rolls of toilet paper will be the best encouragement to continue.

One of my favorite things about Gothic and Elex is that you can and will run into high-level poo poo that you don't stand a chance against, and wont for a while unless you find a weird way to cheese them. Running away is absolutely something you need to do, a lot, early on. It gives you a memorable reason to go back there later when you're more powerful.

The game will still have a weird "fuzziness" to it's overall look but that seems to be an intentional graphics choice.

Its a completely forgettable game. Same recipie again and very generic from start to end with the Sci-fi as new element very underwhelming and new mechanics like jetpack just adding new jank. PB lost their ability to make something as interesting as G1/2 pretty much with G3. I kind of liked the small scope of Risen again but none of their games had the lovely world building and special characters from the early days which are an essential element of the joy.
