Pretty sure it’s his thing. That group was an OK “new band” source for me for a hot minute, but the community got hella toxic REAL quick. It’s like a train wreck now. More noise I scroll through on social media.

Well poo poo. I got a bunch of new stuff from that channel. I remember seeing a handful of libertarian things associated with the youtube channel but nothing toxic and I never interacted with it through other social media. gently caress him, spread the word.

Jeeeebus check out the Facebook page Stoned Meadow of Crap. Documents SMOD’s shittiness going back for a while. What a complete piece of poo poo.

I just found out that the Bong Druid guy is one from whom SMOD was stealing reviews and posting as original content.

I went from “well that sucks” to “ruin this dude’s channels” in just a couple minutes of poking around on Facebook. He’s straight up scum in several different ways.

Funny enough, a good way to find a bunch of bands to listen to right now is go on Facebook and search Stoned Meadow of Doom and then check out all the artists posting about the latest poo poo. There's more by the hour. Hopefully Truckfighters catch wind and tell him to stop using their artwork as his avatar. Also 666MrDoom is getting a bunch of shoutouts as a good alternate channel since the admin either pays for the uploads or is given that access by the bands.

to the surprise of no one a guy who spends too much time on Youtube is a bigoted piece of poo poo.

someone pointed out that he was making ad dollars off uploading albums to YT in this thread or the old one a few years back, too. no one really cared because it was seemingly to the benefit of the scene (he was running a smallish SMOD festival)

some of his view counts are in the millions for album videos which would be a not insignificant amount of money for the artists who actually made the album, potentially more money than they would have made from sales.

Frankly Im surprised its taken this long and actual hatespeech to get people to take this guy down a peg. I havent listened to anything on his channel that is actually interesting that I also had not already heard of elsewhere.

it seems his trying the scattergun approach, uploading everything he can find and then hoping it hits big and gets a ton of views like the Naxatras or All them Witches videos (4.6 and 1.5m respectively)

I somehow missed that he was monetized and now I feel bad for giving him all that traffic when I should be going direct to artist pages or buying albums outright after deciding I like them enough to listen three or four times. I’ll be spending more time and $ on Bandcamp now, it’s been pretty easy to find most artists there.

drat Clint way to be a dumbass, racist stuff aside I didn't know he would add albums without the band's permission and tell other bands they suck when they choose not to use his channel lol... there's a mass exodus of bands and followers from the SMOD channel now anyway he's prob hosed for really trying to continue. sucks cause I did find a lot of cool music through that

my oft promised Guide to Aussie Doom Scene is finally here. I saw an absolutely fuckin insane show last night which prompted me to get this done so I can gush about em.

Theres a lot of stuff here that borders on psychadelic stoner/doom so I'll might post those entries in the other thread.

Part 2 will be posted at some point in the very un-near future and will consist of the wave of now fanbase-less metalcore bands trying to diversify into Stoner/Doom/Sludge and bringing all their silly Djent strumming and angry Crab stances with them. Some of them are OK!

Part 1 - The best Australia has to offer

Jack Harlon and the Dead Crows
Melbourne
Langolier - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziswSZZbyL4
Ed Parsons (live) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0MjisGf0H0

Saw these guys last night and had my understanding of heavy turned right the gently caress upside down. Holy moly. described as 'frontier doom' there is definitely some mild country/blues inspirations here and there with some hints of All Them Witches. Similar sounds to Elders album Dead Roots Stirring, These guys are gonna make some waves. Only complaint is the band name is a bit folksy and I wouldnt have considered seeing them if someone hadnt mentioned they were quote 'kinda heavy'

Holy Serpent
Melbourne
Shroom Doom - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjE131Brhw0
Fools Gold (live) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ll5HpBPGfE

Probably my Favorite Aussie S/D/S. I've seen them a ton but they never fail to deliver some truly heavy tunes and expand your headspace. Described as 'post doom' or 'doom surf rock' they have a self titled EP and 2 full length albums. Their newest, Endless, is not their strongest entry but the track "Lord Deceptor" is a crushing wave of Syrupy riffage. If I had to compare them to someone id probably say riff and tone-wise theyre like Windhand but with way more variety and proggy undertones.

Comacozer
Sydney
Mydriasis (full album) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnbgzJjIXZc
Definitely one of Sydneys best heavy acts. This is their latest album and definitely their most consistent. Think My Sleeping Karma, Yawning Man, Naxatras but with 300% more Fuzz and DMT injected straight into your brain.

Potion
Sydney
Women of the Wand (EP) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foITtK6ZTC0
Rather new on the scene and I have only seen them with their full lineup once, but absolutely huge sound for a three piece. Vocals are similar to Cough, Musically similar to Monolord but less sludgy. They opened for Beast Wars last week and absolutely gave them a run for their money.

DAWN
Sydney
Dawn (EP) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLNq6HLxvv8
all girl four piece. Lots of fuzzy tones and super heavy on the pagan/occult themes. They have new stuff coming out soon which is a huge step forward over their self titled EP and explores even Darker sounds. Vocals are their most interesting aspect, with most lyrics sung by 3 of the gals in harmony. Live show usually consists of some incense burning, gongs, and the occasional flute interlude. Definitely big fans of Windhand/Dorthias vocal style and Sleep.

DROID
Melbourne
Hyperreality (LP) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAk63bvttQ4
Big first release from these guys. I havent explored it much but they are on my list of bands to see at first opportunity. Mouth of the Hound is probably my favorite track.

Milkmaids
Sydney
Heavy Sleeper (EP) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpQ8odZlUgw
So this is my friends band. Permanent Hiatus due to babies and the band being spread across the east coast. Lots of influence from Electric Wizard, Sabbath, Melvins.

This was a very cool post and I’m going to check these bands out later, never heard of any of them.

I’m skeptical of the metalcore in part two but still looking forward to it, thanks for the post.

This is more like SDS-adjacent, but this Finnish band called Ruoto whose guitarist/vocalist I'm internet friends with went halfway doom rock after I made him a Fuzz Factory clone (their earlier efforts were something like indie alt-rock and some of that naturally remains but they've got stonerier riffs now). Their latest album came out a year ago and I bought it off the bat, then largely forgot about until recently, and now that I've had it in my mobile playlist for a while, I've been like "what retro stoner doom band is this?" when the first track comes on. So I thought I'd share, in case anyone's curiosity is piqued after my ramble.

A bunch of lovely bands playing guitar, then DoL playing bass, first band I toured hardcore with, quit, then I was in Greenbeard also playing bass, for a couple years, then also quit, that was more psych kinda stuff with some doom elements here and there. I play on their newest full length, which is almost done, I think it just needs to go to mastering, and now I started a new band Abject Terror, playing guitar, and screaming. I'm finishing mixing the first release, and sending it off to mastering early next week. I'll definitely post it here with a download code for y'all.

Can confirm Destroyer of Light loving rips live. Can't remember if my band played or if I went to see one of the other bands, but DoL really impressed me. They gave 110% even though it was a rinkydink dive bar and the turnout was lackluster. Bought their Endsville record and, while solid, it paled in comparison to the energy and heaviness of the live performance. And just for frame of reference I don't always prefer live shows over albums, more often the opposite actually.

I got some more bands in my back pocket to right up when I get the chance.

Im heading to WoFest in May down in Melbourne, the line up for that is absolutely the whos-who of Australian S/D/S

Comacozer
Dawn
Jack Harlon and the Dead Crows
Planet of the 8s
DROID
Black Heart Death Cult (not to be confused with Mountain Wizard Death Cult)

plus a few more that I havent yet explored: Sons of Zoku, Arrowhead Royal Artillery and Thaw.

also featuring international acts SOMALI YACHT CLUB and STONED JESUS.

In other news Elder dropped a track off their new album and its pretty bland. after 2 albums moving further away from Dead Roots Stirring I am giving up on them ever being that good again. I'll go watch them live if they play songs off that album, but since they have a new drummer Im not hopeful that will happen. Its almost as if they dont like being associated with Stoner/Doom as a scene and are trying to do anything to get away from it, including forgetting what got them where they are.
