Sometimes, statistically, they'd align in the same episode. "Kill Mark, Kill" is the one where the stars were just in alignment. That said, yes, the design and setting deserved better than the show we ultimately got. However, just look at that animation of Leonard drinking and the movement on the wand! It looks great. Loved that.  The oddest thing is the main protagonist is easily the most hateable person on the show despite being ostensibly the most normal and moral one.
