Has anyone ever asked the Crush 40 dudes how they feel about their music being called "Butt Rock"? Maybe that's a common term in music but I had never heard used for literally anything other than Sonic music, even today. And I don't think I've ever heard anyone use the term Butt Rock for Sonic music in a disparaging way either. Fans love the Butt Rock music

Buttrock was a more common term back in the 90s for semi-generic middle of the road 90s rock, it's just associated with Crush 40/Sonic now because it leans so hard into 90s rock.

Musou games are definitely associated with buttrock, though you might not have ever been into the Warriors games enough to hear fans using the label (affectionately). For me, butt-rock has always been that late 90's rock that Funimation used to shove into all of the anime dubs. Is it good rock? I don't know, probably not I guess. It's not there to be an auditory tour-de-force, it's there to have electric guitars so you can headbang while Goku/Naruto/Sonic punches Vegeta/Sasuke/Shadow

It was widely considered to be one of the worst Sonic games with people saying it was the worst one since 2006. I think people were extra disappointed since it came out not long after Mania.

Forces is significantly better-made than Adventure or similar because you can actually play it from start to end. It's just that you wouldn't want to. It's just... it sure is a game that exists.

Forces's non-Classic Sonic music was good and the avatar stages were okay. Its most outstanding feature was just how forgettable and bland it was otherwise. Can Sonic Team just never do 2D again? Hire the Mania guys to do those games, and get the dudes who did Sonic Generations make more 3D stages. EDIT: I seriously cannot overstate just how lovely the 2D stages in Forces are. Like, it's the same engine as Generations, which had passable Classic Sonic stages. How did they make Classic Sonic so loving unresponsive? I like Forces better than Mania, because I can hang out with my best bud Sonic in Forces, whereas I don't like Sonic 3 so half of Mania is just lost on me.

one thing I definitely remember about Sonic Forces was how dogshit the controls are. Like, trying to turn right but the game says “no” and aggressively shoves you to the left into a pit
