I haven't heard that song in forever. Reminds of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHMwJ_adn7s I feel like these girls would have been way bigger if they had come out a few years later, when the Pop punk think was way more popular, but at the same time, I think a big appeal of that was it was full of cute boys with tattoo's. Like how many girl pop punk bands were there?

The song unfortunately is super generic so that might be a reason those girls never caught on? The fashion is also so 90’s it hurts. I had a bunch of those striped shirts in high school in the 90’s, and my wife still pines for them. Edit: I found this site when trying to figure out stuff about that LiveOnRelease band http://www.angelfire.com/weird/celticdaisy/music.html

This might have been mentioned. Or maybe not: Sending a link to your friend/ co-worker and telling them to turn their computer speakers up and click on a link: Its either the one where some ugly looking monster thing pops out from the side of the screen, screaming, Or the old classic two dudes boning or some dick pics, and the audio is "hey everyone this computer is showing gay porn, come on over here if you want to see some gay porn, look everyone, there is gay porn on this computer"!!

Lucha Underground, AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling are good alternatives to what WWE is limp-dick pumping out. Asuka and Kairi Sane are the best parts of WWE for me and they're totally not bound to the dumb McMahon/Helmsley scripts by virtue of them just speaking japanese all the time. They can actually have personality.

Eh, I haven't gone out of my way to watch WWE since the 90's, but it comes on right after Jeopardy on Fridays now, so occasionally it'll just be on while I do other things. I do find the lady wrasslers to be a whole lot more entertaining than the men these days.

There was this simple default hairstyle that young males had, from kids through high-school age, where it was just combed forward and the front was sort of spiked upward a bit. Last year I was at a gas station and saw what had to be a dude in his 40s with that hair and it was the most depressing thing I've ever seen.

I remember spiky hair and all the barbers would ask if you wanted gel because of course you did. I would always say yes out of social anxiety and trying to get the haircut over with then tossle it back to normal.

The 90's will probably get about as much nostalgia as the 70's did, which is not much at all. I agree that we still have plenty of reserves of 90s nostalgia to go yet, but we've definitely been on a cycle of celebrating the 90s pretty much since Jurassic World came out. The 80s just never seem to die; it has a feeling to it like that's where modernity begins. Btw, we went in HARD on 70s nostalgia in the 90s. Maybe you just have a blindspot for odd-numbered decades?

Just plowed through this whole thread, and not one mention of Friendster?! For shame, thread, for shame. I signed up for Friendster in 2003 bc my new boyfriend (now my husband) was on it. In addition to his real account, he had a fake comedy account who listed under his favorite bands "the music from the Weather Channel". It was the height of hilarity for me at the time, especially because as I was checking it out for the first time, we had Hurricane Isabel knocking on our door and I actually had the Weather Channel on at the time. 2001 saw my first music gig, and me selling lots of CDs for the next few years. I had a map on my wall where I stuck a pin in every place someone mail-ordered a CD. Nobody buys physical CDs anymore; my swank-rear end Casio thermal CD printer that was sooooo fuckin' cool in 2004 is in my storage unit collecting mold.

Speaking of hairstyles, was there a name for that women's hairstyle trend where it would be pulled back, sometimes in a ponytail but maybe just held back with clips or something, but then the very front was sort of "poofed up", if you know what I mean? I feel like Paris Hilton and Kelly Clarkson ALWAYS had that style in the early 2000's.

I'm not sure if it had a name, but there was a product sold on TV that would help you achieve this look if you weren't able to get your hair to do it naturally. They were called Bump-Its and I remember them being aggressively advertised during trashy reality shows towards the end of the decade. The ads themselves are peak 2000's content. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU4AaTOGOM4

Except it was more on the front, not the back. I guess that product would work for the front. I just saw this comment on Reddit today and it perfectly encapsulates what I'm talking about : But yeah, like this: It wasn't always that "Extreme"/big of a poof/bump, sometimes it just looked like they pulled their hair back all the way but then a tiny bit on the front got pulled out of their hairtie.

Oh god all the teenage girls that work for me love Friends. Even though they say it has lovely politics and why aren't there any non white people in it, they love it. Seeing early 2000s Hillary Duff reminded me of a style i associate with her starting at the time, wearing jeans and then a skirt over it. Sometimes it would be a flully loose skirt, other times a super tight miniskirt. It was a weird style and i cannot imagine some of the choices were comfortable.
