It was posted I think, but I didn't watch it (for some reason). God that looks great though.

edit: There's a second trailer too but I'd skip it. The first is enough to entice you and the second gives away some details of the storytelling conceit I would have rather been surprised by.

Same, it did the rounds on the festival circuit around 2 years ago I think? I'm fairly certain it played the Fantasia festival in 2018 at least.

this story both totally shocked me and also didn't really surprise me at all. The initial fervor over the critic who was revealed to have used racial slurs in private was one thing, and honestly the way people involved in film/film twitter came out and said "yo it's bad to be racist but also please don't kill yourself" was a reminder of the more positive communal aspects of the internet (in that she was stopped before she actually committed suicide) and then this dude jumps in and pulls the Twitter Hat-Trick of

1). getting incredibly fuming mad about something that didn't really concern you,
2). Getting all the facts completely wrong and
3). Not backing down even when people are talking about actively not going to see your movie because of what you're saying.

The dude made a loving burner account after his main account got shut down; you are a god damned movie director making movies with Harry loving Potter, maybe learn when to sit down and shut the gently caress up.

edit: this is only tangentially related but i think it's really cool that after his death, Roger Ebert's wife has turned his website into a criticism/film writing site with a diverse and talented writing staff and uses it much the same as Roger did when he was alive. I rarely read anything bad on there, and while obviously no one can replace someone with Ebert's talent and craft, the fact that it's not just a shrine to his memory and that it continues to do what he did in regards to celebrating film is very cool. Chaz Ebert is awesome.

What the hell happened during production on Rumble?

quote:

On April 25, 2018, the film was announced with the title Monster on the Hill, based on the 2013 graphic novel of the same name by Rob Harrell, at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.[1] The title was subsequently changed to Rumble."

https://www.amazon.com/Monster-Hill-Rob-Harrell/dp/1603090754

quote:

In a fantastical 1860s England, every quiet little township is terrorized by a ferocious monster -- much to the townsfolk's delight! Each town's unique monster is a source of local pride, not to mention tourism.

Each town, that is... except for one. Unfortunately for the people of Stoker-on-Avon, their monster isn't quite as impressive. In fact, he's a little down in the dumps. Can the morose Rayburn get a monstrous makeover and become a proper horror? It's up to the eccentric Dr. Charles Wilkie and plucky street urchin Timothy to get him up to snuff, before a greater threat turns the whole town to kindling.

I guess all they're keeping is that each town has a monster and this one is red and needs monster training from a human.

Looks like they changed the setting to modern times and made it about monster wrestling way back in 2018 before the WWE was even involved:

:agreed: Best thing about a Candyman remake is that Tony Todd is going to get a check.

I don't understand why Peele keeps getting to do whatever he wants, Get Out and Us were both pretty mediocre, his reboot of the Twilight Zone bombed, and Hunters is just straight up bad.

Not saying the dude doesn't have talent but I wish he would just go away for a while.

Can't speak for Twilight Zone, since I never watched it, nor can I speak for Hunters, since I haven't seen it yet.

But Get Out and Us being mediocre, and not knowing why he can do what he wants?

Hmm, Maybe this is why.

Or maybe you just have really bad taste and you're really pretentious about it? You're not the only one in this thread.

How is expressing an opinion pretentious? I didn't say that my view was explicitly more correct than anyone else's nor did I put down anyone else's enjoyment of his non-comedy stuff. I just said that his continuing status as high level tastemaker guy was baffling to me as someone who doesn't really enjoy his work. Different strokes for different folks and all that.

In any case yes I do understand how numbers work so as long as his movies keep making money yes he will continue to be a thing despite his output being uneven at best or mediocre and derivative at worst, depending on where you're standing.
