Irish Sinn Fein.

That's a legitimately odd response from ISF. They've been political for ages now with no real loss. As noted already, they set up a "political party" and were heavily pushing an anti-FF/FG position in the run-up to the election. To abandon that now and claim to be apolitical is nonsense.

I think the thing with ISF is they are starting to realise. "Hang on, we have over a hundred thousand members. We are big enough that someone could go after us for Defamation. "

Like they were making comments about Al Porter being a sex pest when it was an open secret but before he had been charged with anything and so it was technically Defamatory.
When this was pointed out by lawyers like myself and a friend their response was "lol.
We are a meme page, what are they going to do? Sue us?"

Now that it is over a year on and they sell merch, I think people are realizing that yes, they can be sued.

The real test will be if they start cracking down on Conor McGregor stuff.

But if something defamatory is posted on the Twitter account (unless it was a comment unique to the Twitter account) it almost certainly is a repost from the Facebook group.

I think that they are going to end up crossing a line.

Latest homeless figures show a jump greater than the record breaking dip we had last year.

Homelessness still on an upward trajectory and back above the ten thousand mark. You’d nearly think the government fudged last months figures to give good news coinciding with the election.

I had seen a YFG member posting during the election on twitter that the record drop shows FG policy is working, new apartments being constructed were cutting the homeless numbers. I wanted to reply on that to ask him what he thought of this months numbers but that tweet has mysteriously vanished.

No and they've already announced the next time the Dail meets they are just gonna skip the government formation step, still in ongoing negotiations with FF and FG side eyeing each other.

SDs ruled out going into government with either FF and FG and the Greens getting a bit negative about entering a government with FF or SF after multi hour negotiations with everyone.

But also polls

I think the polls will probably actively discourage the other parties from letting it get to second election stage tbh.

The fact that SF has seen a two step +20% surge in like a month will probably make the other parties feel like these explosive gains are too untenable in the long run and hope that spacing them out three or four years will weaken them, momentum is on their side at the minute.

kustomkarkommando

I also note that my former MP for Foyle, Elisha McCallion, who lost the seat for SF with a 20% swing away from the party partly due to the fact she was a pretty poo poo constituency worker and mired in accusations of being promoted through nepotism (she's an Anderson) is being nominated for the Senate for the industrial panel by SF.

i would expect an analysis like this to force a FF/FG compact very quickly under normal circumstances - so long as there's so much doubt about the government, SF is going to keep strengthening their position until something gives. SF are the ones who've said they were willing to cooperate, after all, and were turned down

i wouldn't underestimate the proportion of support that SF is getting now from turning into a major party, though - a lot of people who might've been thinking that hey, this isn't that bad and they have some good ideas etc will tend to see them as a real option for the first time, and that support is likely to stick.

“Sinn Féin Have Coronavirus, Pass It On” Varadkar Tells Media

BREAKING NEWS, LOCAL NEWS, POLITICS

TAKING a break from so-called ‘exploratory talks between his party and Fianna Fáil over a failure to find anything to disagree on, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has returned momentarily to his favourite pastime which some people have labeled as hysterical scaremongering regarding Sinn Féin.

“Sinn Féin are not a normal party; further proof of this is that they’re coughing up big phlegmy spits, they’re coronavirusing all over everyone. You didn’t hear it from me but pass it on, yeah?” the Taoiseach said in a briefing with sections of the media.

The Taoiseach-for-the-time-being also expressed no strong opinion on journalists wanting to write about how maybe, owing to this Coronavirus scare, all Sinn Féin public meetings should be canceled on health and safety grounds.

“Some of their members have even taken to wearing balaclavas to protect themselves from infection, write that down, are you writing that down?” added the Taoiseach.

Going on to suggest that it may have been easier for Sinn Féin to contract the Covid-19 disease due to their strong links to Communist China, the Taoiseach was keen to stress that the last thing he wanted was people needlessly panicking.

“Typical socialists they want to redistribute everything to everyone, even infectious diseases,” concluded the Taoiseach, happy his party’s policies and strong vision for Ireland have once again been relayed to the Irish public.

Elsewhere, the Irish Independent has asked if now is the time to hold another election just as soon as all Sinn Féin voters are put in quarantined lockdown in their homes.

I have heard rumours that other schools have had suspected cases with their kids (allegedly one is St. Michael's in D4) but have not closed. Probably out of some misguided notion that it is shameful to have sick children or something.

I don't think the schools should be publicly shamed, if they are being closed it is as a precaution after all, but they should probably be named for public health reasons.

I do agree with ISF. What is up with all these schools with kids going on ski trips for Mid Term?

Its not that expensive in the grand scheme of things, its a skill best to learn while youngish, and its much more fun as a group activity. So it does make a lot of sense as a school trip.

But it is a bit bougie yeah, the boom's back baby and all that I guess.

Obviously I think if kids or their parents want to go on ski trips, that is fine. I was brought on a ski trip with my uncle back when I was 14.
It was a cool experience but not my thing.
That being said horses for courses.

I was talking to a TY student at work yesterday and he said his school brought like 40 out of it's 90 TY students on a school ski trip, but that was done by way of a lottery.
I think the notion of schools being well run and funded enough to organize ski trips abroad is a bit of a sign of "Celtic Tiger is back baby!" Since that never happened to my school. And I was in school during the actual Celtic Tiger era.

Anyway the papers are now naming the Glasnevin school that is closed and that Mary Lou's kids go there.
