Stuff that’s happening: Trump has put VP Mike Pence in charge of the US response to the coronavirus sweeping the globe, which means we can look forward to hearing about how Pence only got coffee for the campaign and was never really involved in anything important in a couple of months when global air travel is shut down, bulldozers are digging mass graves for the virus’ victims at Mar a Lago, and Madagascar has closed its ports. Unless of course the CDC finds that coronavirus turns people gay, in which case Pence will direct the full fury of the US government in an effort not seen since the Manhattan Project. A bunch of Democrats are still running for President, but it’s all for naught now that Marianne Williamson and her big crystal energy are gone. We will finally have peace in Afghanistan thanks to the bigliest and bestest deal ever. The troops are coming home, soon!

One of the worst things about Trump is his approach of not paying his vendors until a court forces him to, and it's one of the reasons he had to resort to reality TV.

African-American voters are one of the most important demographics in the Democratic Party, and as SC demonstrated most of them are still backing Biden. At this point, it really comes down to Super Tuesday, and whether Sanders gets enough votes to put up a solid delegate lead. California and Texas are, by far, going to be the biggest states to watch.

orange juche posted:https://twitter.com/bradkjenkins/status/1234162165612937218?s=20 It halts the first two of the 'Asylum Directives' described here: quote:On July 2, 2019, three weeks after assuming his new office, Cuccinelli issued a memorandum announcing a revised policy for scheduling credible-fear interviews in expedited removal proceedings. AR 113. Under the revised policy, USCIS (1) reduced the time allotted for asylum seekers to consult with others prior to their credible-fear interviews from 72 or 48 hours to “one full calendar day from the date of arrival at a detention facility,” AR 113 (“reduced-time-to-consult directive”), and (2) prohibited asylum officers from granting asylum seekers extensions of time to prepare for their credible-fear interviews, “except in the most extraordinary of circumstances,” id.; see also AR 114 (“prohibition-on-extensions directive”). Although not reflected in the memorandum, Plaintiffs assert that Cuccinelli also cancelled [3] “[t]he in-person [legal] orientation process that was” previously “in place” at the Dilley Detention Center in Dilley, Texas. Dkt. 12-2 at 3–4 (Fluharty Decl. ¶¶ 6–7) (“in-person-orientation directive”). Before its cancellation, according to Plaintiffs, that policy “allowed asylum seekers to ask questions about their legal rights, provided the only means of transmitting information to asylum seekers who cannot read, and facilitated understanding for asylum seekers with special needs, including disabilities or competency issues.” Dkt. 12 at 18; see also Dkt. 12-2 at 3–4 (Fluharty Decl. ¶¶ 6–7). Taken together, Plaintiffs refer to these revised policies as the “Asylum Directives.” The effect of the directives are noted here: article. (Cutting the pass rate on one step of the asylum process from 97% to 10%) Unfortunately, the removal of the in-person orientation may be the directive most responsible for the huge increase in denials. joat mon fucked around with this message at 20:11 on Mar 1, 2020 |
