to be fair I think this argument is actually useful for this thread as the Alt right can also be used as a weapon for people someone doesn’t personally like

reading her thread it seems her problem is that they are very popular and are reaching people unfamiliar with leftism but are more concerned with class and economic issues than intersectionality. sounds like a personal problem to me

I was being somewhat sarcastic (only somewhat, because she spends a seriously large portion of that thread going over her credentials) I'm not actually that familiar with her or interested in her argument, if there's one thing that makes my eyes glaze over it's deep critiques of specific pundits who themselves I already can't get interested in for real my soul is leaving my body, check it out

four of the threads I follow are talking about this now, and any response that isn't agreeing with the ppl who bring it up is met with "wow, defensive much?" and "please stop this derail"

CharlestheHammer posted:that doesn’t make her perfect either. Not really. As I understand it, the main argument is "motherfuckers!, I've seen what latent strasserism in comedy leftism can do, and how the class-only instead of class-first horseshoe spits out nazbols in the end" Which is actually correct. I've seen this first hand both in Genoa two decades ago and Athens a decade ago. What I don't really get is how CTH comes in to this. Mainly because I don't listen to them much. Seeing the complete yikes replies to her thread though is starting to give me an idea.

I dismissed chapo, and the "dirtbag left" for years, thought they were awful just from the way people described. Actually listened to a couple shows lately and realized that it's extremely tame. Any time they're ranting about idpol it's not about intersectional stuff, mostly liberal 'woke' idpol. The "we need more women ceos" nonsense. Seems harmless to me but I'm too young to have been around protests for decades so

I, too, love to have to chase greasy white boys out of my leftist spaces every time I think a podcast millionaire might not be helpful to working class solidarity. nothing on Chapo is worth defending, begone EDIT: the problem is almost certainly not the actual podcast, but insufferable motherfuckers who will absolutely not see its name tarnished

CharlestheHammer posted:a big part of her argument relies on specifically calling out white males as some exclusive bloc Maybe I'm not getting this because I'm European, but it really seems to me like there is a misunderstanding here. I live in a tamely racist white religious patriarchy (Greece). Identity politics is loving good. It always was. The fact that - as I understand it - a strain of your capitalists in the US has weaponized idle IdPol as a way to keep you voting against your class does not mean that any or every criticism about IdPol is coming from the ironic right or results in its propagation. And again, a big part of her argument is real life. I've seen this poo poo like Occupy happen too.

Dante80 posted:Maybe I'm not getting this because I'm European, but it really seems to me like there is a misunderstanding here. idpol is basically used that by dismissing groups when it is useful. idpol is more useful as an advocacy tool rather than as a way to tear down other groups in my opinion

the problem is the comedy podcast turning people on to leftism, not the idpol fanatics seeing potential nazbols everywhere and bringing up the fact that chapo is white every time they complain

I don't really care about the podcast (it's kind of obnoxious but whatever, there's a million podcasts I don't listen to) but I'm extremely sick of how every time somebody criticizes them on Twitter and they notice there's suddenly a hundred dipshits calling them names and telling them they're liberals who hate poor people and so on. Sometimes I've seen them get pushback from their fans (like a couple of weeks ago when one of them decided a Jewish socialist identifying with Bundism is "cringe") but mostly it's just a swarm of assholes imposing a cost on criticizing then.
