How does this even work? Like, if the guy is booked through another agent how does Sonny Onoo swoop in and suddenly start making demands?

I'm not entirely convinced "Sonny Onoo is the Great Muta's agent and is playing hardball demanding ridiculous things and denying him from cards" isn't an elaborate nostalgia storyline.

Anyway The Collective is launching an art zine?

No tier to actually see the show, and the show itself sounds like GLOW. 🤷‍♂️

The $400 tiers and up have tickets to the show. Are you saying a tier to see the finish product? I would assume they intend to... you know... air it.

The show sounds more like Lucha Underground than GLOW. Or something in the middle.

Exactly that. MST3K went right to Netflix, but the KickStarter backers still got downloads, DVDs, etc. Heck, even the Critical Role people were going to give people early access to their show after Amazon Prime picked it up.

What if it doesn't get picked up? The show and money just lapses into ephemera? Feels lovely to the people who throw down that money for it.

I wish them all the luck in the world, but it doesn't feel like this is a group which has much Kickstarter savvy.

They should aim for a lower tier which gives wide ranging access, then bump up to tiers that give exclusive goods/merch/etc.

The closest thing you've got is $25 for a PDF of the script which you don't even get until the show MAYBE airs.

I'm not super familiar with the economics of Kickstarter so I can't really say. $50 for a t-shirt seems like the go to donation and while that's high for a t-shirt and I could see dropping it 10 or 20 bucks to try and get more biters I don't know the math on that and it is a donation. But I don't know.

The idea of advertising that you can pay for a copy of the show though feels odd to me. Like everyone donating is presumably doing so with the belief that it will be made available to watch. Advertising that you can buy access to a copy seems like its sending the opposite message. That if you don't donate that number you might not see it. I dunno. I guess I could see like a "buy a DVD copy or video copy" tier but like... I also probably wouldn't do that one unless it was cheap.

Like I said, I'm not super familiar with Kickstarter and on the few occasions I've given to it I've seen it purely as a donation. So I can't say whether they're doing it right or not. As I said the fact that they're resorting to that at all feels like a bad sign of this seeing light, but I dunno. I might just be an old fart unfamiliar with the way of things today.

I've been burned on so many shows on Kickstarters before that get funded then premier on an exclusive app that I will definitely not download just for one show and I'm also lol'ing that the only size the T-Shirt is in is men's medium

Still though, I hope they do well, there's a big void of women's wrestling in the NA scene right now.

Yeah, fair. Like I said I'm not super familiar, don't see this as likely to happen, and think you should probably just consider any donation you make to be just that in the same way you shouldn't expect to make back your money in a casino.

I totally get why donators would want to be "guaranteed" a copy but I also feel like that's a weird thing to balance with all the other donators basically saying "you may never see this unless you pay more." But again, I'm not arguing in their defense. Just kind of working my way through the system.

RealFoxy posted:

Its not. They have a bunch of sizes in women and men up to 3XL just as different entries.

A Kickstarter where the actual product you’re funding is a stretch goal 50% higher than the actual goal seems dumb as poo poo.

If this falls between 400k and 600k they basically just get to take everyone’s money.

600k to do an entire season sounds optimistic at best. Well doable if the talent is paid in dividends on the streaming profits.

Their outline says the 600K is for the pilot. They estimate 4.8M for 8 episodes.

I don't know Kickstarter but that seems... unlikely.

The $600k target is just to do the pilot

Almost a tenth of the way there in under six hours since launching isn't a terrible start

The full season obviously looks unlikely without help from their more famous friends

$600,000 is around what a major TV wrestling production would cost. That's a bit over what Dynamite costs, and since it is a one off I am sure there are added expenses so it doesn't sound unreasonable for the project.

The project itself is completely unrealistic and won't happen, but whatever.

it's already done tbh, it stalled at less than 10% on the first day and you need to hit 30% minimum in the first 48 hours to have a chance at funding. unless robert irvine is gonna drop 50% of it himself at some point
