I use Firefox as my primary browser, and I just checked and the biggest culprit is Facebook with just over 100mb. I've seen Chrome be generally worse about this lately. And in tab chat - I try to keep myself to a dozen tabs or less per browser, but I am pretty much always running at least two web browsers, often three, occasionally more.
