Gavin pretty clearly wants to run for President one day and wants to have some shiny achievements under his belt for the dem primaries. I mean, I’ll take it. How the system is supposed to work after all.

I'm probably not the only person here that reads the Chronicle but dratquote:A Placer County man who died last week from coronavirus almost certainly became infected before he boarded a cruise ship from San Francisco to Mexico on Feb. 11, suggesting that he was exposed to the virus in the community and it has been circulating in parts of California for longer than previously reported, according to a cruise ship doctor. CA is not doing a good job managing this. LA isn’t even really testing people and there are doctors begging for it.

I mean Newsom just waived all testing fees for the virus. What more do you want, him to deploy the CDC and go door to door?

Could ask the UC system to start making kits and testing for virus. Its not a hard assay to perform we could do thousands of tests a day no problem just on my campus. From my understanding there is no current push to do so by any biology-adjacent department.

I hope someone is in the works to primary Kamala Harris in 2022. What a pathetic endorsement after what she brought up in the debates AND the California primary results.

But yes I actually want the governor to go door to door that’s exactly what should happen. 🙄 To expand on it. Ca is quick to stand up to the government on other poo poo but with this they 100% are dragging their feet and letting the Feds take the lead.

American public health is a mess of heavily decentralized and overlapping jurisdictions. The ability of people of like Newsom to unilaterally impose policy or guidelines on them is a lot less than you’d think.

MarcusSA posted:Well this why the LA county number is so low. Googled related to this, and apparently the CDC strategy referenced on using old stockpiles of masks is this:: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/release-stockpiled-N95.html Noteable: quote:Users should take the following precautionary measures prior to using the respirator in the workplace. As I mentioned in a previous post when people were asking about masks for fire, stuff like the N95 or n99 on filters out particulates, so there's no chemical filtration element (at least in cases run across), but only a phsyical filter that doesn't break down that easily. So the stuff they're worried about breaking down seems to be the straps and foam, and the stuff that goes against the bridge of the nose. If it's stored correctly it should be fine, and if they have people inspect the masks it should be fine. (Also not an expert here, but I remember looking this stuff up when I was buying masks. Anyone who knows more feel free to call out whatever stuff in my post.)

Chiang loving sucks because he supported not paying legislators in the event of a budget showdown, effectively giving massive leverage to already wealthy politicians over the ones who actually rely on their salary to live. It’s stupid faux populist bullshit that tilts things massively towards the wealthy. gently caress Chiang. Delaine Easton, though....

That's a really dumb position for him to have taken considering the big political highlight of his career so far was when he told Arnold to pound sand when he ordered Chiang to cut a bunch of state workers' salaries down to minimum wage until his budget got passed.

Just to raise his profile in the state a bit to plant the seeds of a future, actually serious run? It's just baffling to me that he raised big noise over challenging Feinstein from the left and then just... didn't actually bother to run a campaign after that.
