Take the Dam tour! If they still do the one where you go like deep inside the dam, it is super cool and fun.

Valley of fire can round that out as a day trip from Vegas.

the magnetorotational instability turns me on
During my Vegas Christmas a few weeks ago, I checked out a few new things:
- The artsy side of town is very neat. Arts Factory is a really cool warehouse turned local artist gallery with a wide range of styles and reasonable prices on a lot of work. There are tons of galleries, antique places, vintage stores, neat bars, and hip local restaurants in that area.
- Esther's Kitchen over there was awesome. Really tasty, interesting stuff.
- On the strip, Spago at Bellagio was really good fancy American stuff. If you sit outside on the heated patio, you're on a balcony next to the Bellagio fountains.
- The chef's tasting menu at Yellow Tail was phenomenal if you're into Japanese food. Also at Bellagio.

Opium is very good. It's silly, over-the-top grown-up humor, so if that's your thing I recommend it.

I liked Opium as well. It has a sci-fi themeing, so if that's your jam, you should check it out. It's pretty similar in concept and pretty goofy. I think I'd still recommend Absinthe over it, but I would definitely check it out if you liked Absinthe.

Anyone got a quick food recommendation for downtown Vegas? No one can decide where to eat. Cheap to $40 per entree would be fine. Thanks Vegas goons.

Le Thai is seriously one of my favorite thai restaurants on the planet.

Flock and fowl was p. Good too.

Pizza rock is also good and quick.

Just wear the fucking mask, Bob

I don't care how many people I probably infected with COVID-19 while refusing to wear a mask, my comfort is far more important than the health and safety of everyone around me!

April 14-17 is dirt cheap to go to Las Vegas right now. But with things being canceled, United cutting flights, should I book it now or wait another week or two?

An example is through Expedia, flights + 3 nights at a low-tier place like Excalibur or Luxor is $180 + resort fees, the flights alone are $160 (coming from DTW). I don't mind staying in a dump because I'll really be only in the room to sleep, but we'll still probably stay somewhere fancy like Aria or Venetian because wife.

3rd time in 3 years, this time it will be just us and it won't be work-related so we can really do anything that we want.

My wife and I just booked to go to Vegas at the end of this month. We were there 3 years ago and saw Absinthe and loved it. I saw that the Absinthe folks are doing two new shows: Opium at the Cosmo, and Atomic Saloon show at the Venetian. Are there any opinions on which might be better?

I haven't seen Atomic Saloon, but Opium is great if you like dumb, over the top grown-up silliness.

Sounds like our kind of show. I was leaning towards that one. We want to see one additional show but not sure what's good these days. We saw Absinthe and the Beatles Love last time. What are the cool shows right now?

When the light turns green, you go. When the light turns red, you stop. But what do you do when the light turns blue with orange and lavender spots?
Going to Vegas for 2 nights in a couple weeks, kind of a last minute trip so I'm looking for some recommendations for anything great.

After reading the last few pages I definitely want to do the Absinthe show, Caesars Buffet, and Le Thai as my SO loves thai food.

I haven't decided on a hotel though the Aria looks nice for a short stay.

Besides signing up for a player card at casinos, are there any other 'secret' deals to take advantage of?

Lotus is fuckin' amazing if you order the right stuff.

Khao soi, garlic prawns, dips, nam kao todd, whatever else Jay tells you to get.

For the basic stuff I really liked Le Thai's pad kee mao and fried rice better.

I'd expect room rates to plummet soon so just book a cancellable rate and keep watching. I'm not an expert on other types of Vegas room deals but if you actually gamble just have them evaluate your play for comps before you check out.

These are all great choices, duck penang, charbroiled prawns with garlic sauce (different then the fried garlic prawns), pork ribs, anything with the braised short ribs, and the soft shell crab drunken noodles are dishes I'd also suggest.

I'm not saying Le Thai has bad food, it doesn't, but given the opportunity to eat at a restaurant that has so much more in terms of unique dishes and breadth of menu, I think it's a mistake to skip it.

Maybe Le Thai isn't bad, but it's aggressively mediocre. Compared to nearly every other Thai place in town, there's no reason to pick this place over Lotus (obviously), Komol, Thai Spoon, Weera...

Mandalay Bay at $100 cheaper a night compared to Aria is hard to pass up, thats a lot more food or fun to have.

How much time do you really spend in the room anyways?

Kinda have to factor transportation costs into the mix as well as quality of the bed, amenities, etc.

Your individual value may vary on those things. Mandalay is a solid property though, Strip Steak is fantastic and the burger at Libertine Social is in my top 10 in Vegas. Veranda Brunch at Four Seasons a must.

I love the short rib fried rice there with ghost pepper. I'm also staggeringly drunk every time I eat it.

How're things with the Corona scare right now?

I'm supposed to visit next weekend for March Madness which is going to be weird as hell, and a concert which I assume is going to be canceled. Made the mistake of booking an Airbnb instead of a cancelable hotel reservation as well. Ugh

You can still gamble on games that don’t have any spectators. No portion of March Madness was actually being held in Vegas. This is like saying you’re going for the Super Bowl

Ah I thought some games were there. Either way, I wouldn't be surprised if the tournament gets modified quite a bit from here.

I got lucky; that was the host’s policy (50% refund less the service fee if canceling over a week away).

I have an open message to Airbnb to try and recoup the rest on the grounds that there have been multiple cases in Clark County since I booked and my wife is a medical professional (grasping at straws to recoup haha). I haven’t gotten a response, I assume Airbnb is absolutely swamped right now.

AirBnB is such a horrible company. If you paid with AMEX, just dispute the charge. There's literally no reason they should be enforcing cancellation fees.

I had to cancel a trip for medical reasons, they tried to keep all my money, then a few days later cancelled my AirBNB account. In the cancellation letter they sent they said that I'd be getting a refund for any upcoming stays...Lol so in theory if I had waited a few days I'd have just gotten a refund(?) Anyways, disputed that and I'm good to go.
