I have a friend in Southern California whose daughter just got diagnosed with viral pneumonia. WHO recommends that all cases of bilateral pneumonia be tested for coronavirus, but she was not tested. Why? "The coronavirus doesn't kill children anyway"

As for antihistamines, well, I just thought about what would be the worst possible outcome and assumed that would be the correct course. Because hellworld.

They are using the children excuse so that people don't start to panic or something.

So, some updates. I had a sore throat that came out of nowhere and got pretty brutal since last Sunday. I've been managing it with otc meds and felt decent again by Saturday, but then woke up Sunday morning with full body aches and chills / fever sweats. My body seemed like it burned it out again by Sunday night, but the sore throat is back. This is identical to what my boss had, and I got it ~2 weeks after we had a day long work roadtrip together wherein he was still coughing (but doing his best to manage it). Supposedly he had the same weird phase where he briefly got better then got worse and it turned into a lovely cough. I'm not there quite yet and am hoping my immune system is tougher than his as it's generally pretty ironclad. His doctor confirmed he had an unknown viral infection but wouldn't test him for the Roni because his symptoms weren't severe enough. Mine have been obnoxious but not too bad. It could be something else entirely, I'm not sure 🤷♂️ Also the local Target was completely out of most cold meds (DayQuil and the like), toilet paper, and most canned foods, but I managed to stock up on soups and meds and poo poo about a week ago. This is Southern California and it seems like people now realize poo poo's gonna get lovely.

Unless you want children to become the Typhoid Marys of this pandemic, it's important to try to get some idea of the infection rate among them and how easily they fight it off. People are often in much closer physical proximity with children than they are with other adults and don't think twice about kids being walking petri dishes.

Objurium posted:So, some updates. I had a sore-when-you-swallow/sore lump sore throat as opposed to a sandpapered-throat sore throat about 3 weeks ago. The sore throat lasted 9 days. I vomited on the 3rd day (post-nasal drip + sore throat stimulating my gag reflex) and started sounding like dr. girlfriend from day 5-8, which was a brand new one for me. From day 7 onwards I had the worst nonstop cough and couldn't sleep because I was coughing so much. I went to urgent care and they said I had a fever but it was mild and it's "just a viral infection"but gave me the only effective cough medicine I've ever had, benzonatate. I'm in Santa Clara county and this started around Feb 12th so I don't think it was the Roni. Around the same time a colleague had influenza A and B at the same time, lol, he said it was bad but he got tamiflu and felt better quite fast (like within a day and a half)

Mostly just a lovely nose thing and a shittier cough that lingered for two weeks after everything else had resolved. I was worried it was a sign my smoking years were catching up to me, but apparently I was not the only one to get hit with that. Looking forward to round two except way worse, I guess? EDIT: if my last post didnt make it apparent, I'm in Wisconsin.

also in Santa Clara county but travel around SD/OC for work. Went out to DTSJ two weekends ago and that's probably when I caught something. Was stuck in SD last week, felt funky on Monday full blown chills/fever starting Tuesday. Went to ER on Thursday night after 3 days of 103F+ fever. Swabbed positive for Influenza A, prescribed Tamiflu. Feeling better now, but hope my compromised immune system doesn't gently caress me for the Roni... (just got back from a day trip at LAX)

But provincial officials have confirmed that the masks in the stockpile have passed their expiration date and sidestepped questions about how many masks, including expired ones, remain. quote:As of 2017, the preparatory stockpile amassed by Ontario included 26,000 pallets of supplies: respirators, face shields, needles and more. But no one had ensured that the supplies would be given to hospitals before their expiration and then replaced with fresh ones in the stockpile, according to the auditor general report.

Last week I was flying home from Dubai Al Maktoum (which is a smaller new airport, not the huge normal airport) and as luck would have it next 2 gates to mine were to Tehran. Needless to say the whole terminal was pretty freaked out about that, lines to the pharmacy buying masks, hand sanitizers etc. Pharmacy made buck probably. Next day after arrival I got a sore throat and cough, no fever though. My job asked me to stay at home for a while just in case, so I got another week to stay home and play computer games. Throat and cough gone now, I suspect it was actually due to me smoking Marlboro Golds instead of Sobranie like normal, so this is my corona story.
