Some rare good news in these trying times https://twitter.com/andywightman/status/1237710396842270720?s=20 Obviously if you don't follow Scottish politics you don't know who Wightman is but he's a Green MSP & has long been an ardent campaigner on issues like land reform. Very good guy & his book The Poor Had No Lawyers is well worth a read if you're even vaguely interested in Scottish land ownership. forkboy84 fucked around with this message at 13:16 on Mar 11, 2020 |

The UK is somehow still doing better than the US if Radio 4 is to be believed. Hospitals are private so the US gov can't even compel them to release numbers of how many cases they have. Testing goes through insurance and so people have to fully/partly pay for it themselves lol

Sunak wants to spend £5bn on COVID-19. Italy is spending €25bn. They're definitely not going hard on this.

Oh come the gently caress on, they HAVE to do something soon, if the entire loving cabinet is likely to be infected. This is beyond incompetence. This is a total inability to act in their own self interest in even the most basic and primal sense. It's an animal watching in interest as a predator starts tearing off its leg because maybe things will work out of it doesn't do anything.

It's pretty funny how the US has failed just as hard as the UK, all the Americans smug about Bernie, lost like tears in the rain. Never look to the US to save the world, it's a country without much of any safety nets and with an actual loving death sentence FFS. A country where people routinely modify their vehicles to increase emissions to gently caress the environment. A country with gay reeducation camps, where it's legal for parents to e: Or indeed shot by your gun-toting neighbourhood watch instead, with them facing no repercussions if you are black (Trayvon Martin says hi). But I fully expect it to be worse than the financial crash by quite a margin and the economy is going to look pretty pale very soon. They'll get very good healthcare, while the system is functioning fine, and say "see! this is manageable, Wash Your Hands For Victory" to keep putting off the inevitable. What about antivirals? I remember reading some will be finishing trials within weeks, so if widespread infection gets delayed for a few months that could potentially work. Not that the government is doing anything to bring that about. Private Speech fucked around with this message at 16:31 on Mar 11, 2020 |

You know what I've been deeply critical of the PRC in the past but those lads are really growing on me and I'm beginning to wonder if we're a little too eager to buy into the liberal democratic critiques. They're certainly doing something over there. Why are we so happy to accept Western media outlets when they attack China while acknowledging that they lie constantly about any domestic socialist with mainstream popularity? I wonder if we're in a cold war we don't even realise is happening...
