Yeah I really enjoyed the new Smoulder, instabought the tape. Ruined Lust was also good, Afterbirth continues to be just okay but all my friends love it for some reason.

I have a tape deck still, plus some Walkmans. One is connected to my PC for ripping tape only releases. I never really had a problem with tapes being eaten when I was younger, but I was extremely careful with all of my cassettes. I didn't get a discman until maybe 1998, so I used to get my CDs and immediately make a copy onto a tape, and listened to those on my Walkman / in my car. Tapes are cool, but not really worth the effort that you have to put into them now. What I'm trying to say is, CDs for life, basically.

Growing up I only had issues with tapes getting eaten if they were left out of their cases and jostled around for long periods, which would tend generate a lot of slack in the tape. If you didn't tighten them up (a pencil through the hole was the standard approach) before putting them in the deck that was a great way to get the tape eaten. I think later generation decks got better about it too, they had some internal mechanism to tension the tape before starting play. A common sight along roadways was piles of glittering black tape in the gutters because someone got pissed and launched their pile of magnetic spaghetti out the window.
