in "desperate attempts to feel like i'm doing something" news i have now installed folding@home because they have some coronavirus projects. not sure if this is actually effective for anything but my computer fans are now making some noise so maybe i'll save on heating somewhat

Been off all week with the flu, and now getting various facebook shares sent to me by elderly relatives with very spurious medical advice, such as gargling vinegar, cupping, and reiki. Pretty sure only a few days away from the same people advocating bloodletting to balance my humours, or eating a boiled dog's heart soaked in piss, or whatever. [e]: Oh, the week before, my hairdresser was convinced that coronavirus had been made in a lab for the purposes of population control. A full fragment based drug screen on the major protease of the virus, from beginning to end since January. Not enough time to help with this outbreak, which I imagine is why it hasn't been more widely circulated, but very promising as a lead for antivirals against future outbreaks. Has anywhere published any kind of stats on hospitalisation by age group? We see the stats saying CFR for 20-29 and 30-39 is 0.1%, but I don’t think I’ve seen a hospitalisation rate (CHR?) broken down, just the generic 14% which is presumably skewed by the elderly having a much higher rate?

I have it. At first I thought it was just a hangover but I started feeling really cold in my bones whilst my head was getting warm. I've been up all night dry coughing and feel dead achey and just generally hosed. I live in a quite rural area in West Yorkshire and only popped to Manchester last Wednesday (where I'm guessing I picked it up as otherwise I work from home) Also my girlfriend broke up with me and we live together so that makes all this extra fun (hope she doesn't get it and can still move out asap) Just going to play Cities Skylines all day and try not to give it to anyone further

I'm feeling sort of ..... vaguely flu-y but it seems to be getting better, I worry if I self-isolate though I'm going to lose my job, my employer uses the 'Bradford Score' wank to measure absenteeism and mine's already high for having the temerity to need a lot of time off after both my loving parents died last year. Dunno! Part of me is like "gently caress it, take the week off anyway" especially because I know at least one of my coworkers is at a high risk. I can live in my overdraft, it will suck but it's better than, like, risking another person's life, right? Also Animal Crossing's out this week

The bradford score is so dumb because the score gets way worse if you have lots of separate times off work, but if you have one or two periods of a few days at a time, it's not as bad. So if you're off sick for one or two days, you might as well take a couple more off while you're at it because that doesn't affect it nearly as badly.

This is A Computer Thing where it happens automatically with the clocking in system iirc, some managers (my previous one before I switched roles!) are pretty cool about actually acting like humans about it but I have no idea about my new one. Plus it's just a general Vibe I'm getting about my job security since I switched, I dunno. It does loving suck though, one guy has had managers Joke, But Not Really about how high his is because he had surgery that they knew about months ahead of time. Vile poo poo. I definitely wanna get out, it's a miserable job even without this honestly.
