This weekend's matches will be rescheduled, they still haven’t said when though. The venue canceled all events over 50 attendees. E: to clarify that I'm talking about this specific weekend Ignis fucked around with this message at 08:02 on Mar 13, 2020 |

Someone also accused Haku and his discord of fatshaming and bullying earlier today. Plus the stuff about Valentine pulling a Dreamkazper... On nicer things here's the VODs for the NA and EU finals, if you need your weekend fix and want more of last week's meta (matches played with last week's hero pools)

Summary from the Watchpoint event this afternoon: - First match back will be Shock vs. Dynasty on Saturday at 2 pm Eastern. It'll be a mix of them, Valiant, and Gladiators next weekend. - All games will be broadcast. - The Chinese teams are all in China or Korea. Blizzard is trying to schedule matches between them and the teams in the West Coast. - All-Stars tournament event got moved to the end of the season. - Matches are being added on Fridays in April to try to be caught up by the start of May. Current plan is not to extend the season. - Although the upcoming homestands are canceled, they want to bring them back when it's feasible. - With hero pools, they're going to change the odds. The number of entries in the spinner will depend on the hero's usage percentage, rather than each hero getting eight entries in the spinner. 10-25% = one entry, 25-75% = two entries, 75% = four entries, I think. He said this part pretty quick. https://twitter.com/overwatchleague/status/1239266874900336647/photo/1

I like the additional change of extra tickets depending on how high the hero usage is too.

Transpacific games should happen if only so we can get analysts to breakdown how lag screwed over players at specific moments and fans of the teams can claim that their losses don't really count because of it. That way esports can more directly mirror the ladder experience.

NA Contenders Trials news: ATL Academy is stuck on Trials after (deservedly) booting Haku, and Uprising Academy is even more boomed than their OWL brothers. Contenders Korea is getting even less broadcasts than NA this year and that hella sucks, considering the KR side is the biggest source of talent for OWL teams. https://twitter.com/gatamchun/status/1239907106075148289

Next week it'll just be Plat Chat doing the broadcast from their house. (I feel bad for them at this point. If they'd gotten even a little more advance warning on the lockdown, they probably could have figured something out in time)
|
# ? Mar 20, 2020 08:37 |
|
The LCS (NA League of Legends) crew planned for this last week and are all going to be running their broadcast from home, not sure if teams will be able to play with the new safety measures though. Pretty sure this is the nail in the coffin for OWL for a while.

# ? Mar 20, 2020 08:44 |

I feel they really should've seen a full lockdown coming, given how things were going on with Italy. The teams in Korea might have hopesfor a LAN, Contenders KR played LAN for semis/finals this week. Please use the Contenders KR observers OWL

Why can’t they run it exactly like contenders with everyone, including the on air talent doing it out of their houses.

Latency issues with players not together at least on a team basis. Also the issues of enforcing league rules without extra cams and stuff to replace refs (minor, but they still have to uphold competitive integrity and enforce any rules).

# ? Mar 20, 2020 15:03 |

It's gonna be hard (at least for the teams in Cali) to organize lan play if getting two teams + staff + skeleton filming crew together is enough to break the stay at home order. The east coast teams might have better luck getting together at a less restricted state. But on the whole it might just be better to go online, latency be damned. We know they have enough observer spots on the client for at least 13+ people to observe the game at the same time (the amount of cameras of the all access pass); that's honestly enough for filming crew, refs and one of the coaching staff for each team. As I understand most teams either live in a clubhouse, or live in apartments that are not too far apart (same building), so teammates wouldn't be that far from each other geographically speaking. For the east coasters they could try and get the Texas teams closer to the tri-state area? Iirc at least two teams were in NJ. The teams in Korea would probably have the least trouble getting together (if they got Chengdu out of China)
|
# ? Mar 20, 2020 15:52 |
|
I guess since OWL is run on a different client from everything else that is probably where the problem is? Just need everyone to VPN in
|
# ? Mar 20, 2020 16:00 |

Problem isnt the client, problem is 90% the production being something your cant just shift to someones home computer. Edit: its been a while but when I saw the production room there didnt seem to be 13 observers. It was also a proper production room with stuff I'd presume is very hard to move online. I think a contenders like production package would satisfy people just to keep people interested, though I wonder if sponsor agreements are breaking things there?

Ahh, that was my educated guess on how they were spectating all the single player POVs back when All Access was a thing. Guess they might have some server side way to extract that footage then. Just pause the official season, have everyone play from home, call it "preseason", and broadcast some drat scrims. With no sports and everyone stuck at home, they might even gain some viewers.

you gotta assume that they'll do production/desk stuff online and start games soon. it's pretty nuts that they weren't planning for that for this week. hell I'm surprised if they even did that last watchpoint segment in their studio they should get hex and zp to cast some games together to tap into that monthly melee energy
