dialhforhero posted:The whole point of Beavis and Butthead was the riffs on music videos. The side stories were just that. It kinda amazes me that Mike Judge voiced all of those videos. I mean, obviously he voiced all of B&B and several side characters, but just recently I’ve realized just how many videos were on that show, and with around 2 minutes per video, he voiced all of that. That must have been a ton of work to not only watch the videos, write segments for each video, and then voice both characters watching the video. There’s currently a YouTube playlist of 260 some videos, and I wonder how many aren’t on that list. When they did the revival season several years ago, there was a definite change in Beavis’ voice because Judge couldn’t consistently hit the same pitch anymore.

drat, I missed Woodstock 99 chat. I fell into a deep well on Saturday night just watching performances from it. I was there but left right before the riots started. We had been traveling with Phish for the prior three weeks and their festivals were so much more clean and organized in comparison and we just peaced out of there when the rivers of poo poo started rolling. I am still nostalgic about the whole thing though.

Bevis and Butthead Do America still holds up. The animation doesn't look that good, but humor is solid.

One of my favorite B&B jokes wasn't even on the show; it was in one of the paperbacks, specifically "The Butt-Files," which was Beavis and Butt-head discussing the paranormal. Anyway, they managed to contact the spirit of Bruce Lee, and asked him one question - - How's it goin'? - Pretty good. - before getting into a huge argument with each other. I can't explain why, but the notion of contacting the spirit of Bruce Lee and him only getting to say "pretty good" before you turn around and completely ignore him is extremely funny to me.

Ehh. In the pilot of and early episodes of KotH, Hank acts and sounds exactly like Mr. Anderson, but as the show evolved, he becomes more assertive and less of a confused old man. His voice loses that, um... confused old man sound... in the second season.

They look mostly the same and have the same voice, but they are otherwise completely different characters. E: Van Driessen's voice and look has also been cribbed by KotH at different times, although not as blatantly as Mr. Anderson. empty baggie has a new favorite as of 19:39 on Mar 11, 2020 |

Mike Judge has said that both characters are based on the same person from his youth. Apparently while developing KotH, Tom Anderson was originally going to be Hank Hill's father, but FOX couldn't get the rights to the character from MTV. empty baggie has a new favorite as of 20:00 on Mar 11, 2020 |

I'll give you the voice, and some mannerisms, but they really don't "mostly look the same." Different noses, different glasses, different mouths when speaking, Anderson has a chubbier face, etc.. But yeah, that "could have been his dad/uncle if not for MTV" theory seems plausible.

Quick GIS of Mr Anderson suggests that Hank does not wear hats unless pimping, but mr Anderson drinks from a coors colored beer can and rides a mower which is red like Hank’s. LP hookups on the trailer are ubiquitous so no telling about his grilling preferences. Could be hiding some charcoal. Anderson also enjoys a game of golf but that’s just normal. Jury’s out.

I was thinking that they weren't both Hank Hill but I couldn't remember the name of the Beavis and Butthead dude. I thought I remembered Mr. Anderson doing the Hank Hill "BWAAAHHH" shout but I'm not finding it, this clip is definitely the kind of thing Hank Hill would say though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJ65hou2-78

The difference is that Anderson was an old, retired rear end in a top hat, very much in the "gently caress you got mine" and "why don't homeless people just get a job" vein of comfortable suburban Texan white men, while Hank was a fundamentally decent fellow who was also a product of, and sometimes at odds with, the culture that made him.
