Im buying oil and hotels, which is something ive never been interested in before but this is showing every single sign of being wildly overblown and its always the sectors that are left for dead that make the wildest comebacks. I might even buy something super boring like HTZ if it gets down to $5 or so. I still don’t think this logic applies to cruise lines for a variety of reasons but i wont make fun of anyone for buying CCL below $10 once it gets there.

Agree on oil. Saudis and Russia don't want 30 dollar oil long term and the coronavirus demand hit eventually normalizes. US government already willing to step in to help the industry. Buyer of COP.

In hotels land I still like LVS the best. Most of their revenues is in Macau and Singapore, and the future of gaming is in southeast Asia. 6.5% dividend yield but good balance sheet.

Be really careful guys, this is a very short term but severe disruption and it will be very difficult to trade this market correctly over the next month or two. We know what the virus is at this point, its no longer a mysterious unknown. You can argue whatever you want about “well china shut everyone down” “well south korea tested more” but it really doesn’t matter because its basically stopped spreading in both places. It is following a very typical viral outbreak curve. Yes, it might yoyo a bit, but this isn’t apocalyptic. The only real question now is just how incompetent is the trump admin? Just how poorly can you possibly handle this disruption? Just don’t buy cruise lines and you’ll be ok.
The health effects of the disease won't be apocalyptic but I don't know that the market has really grappled with just how long travel restrictions/store/work/school closures will have to be to effectively slow spread enough that health systems can cope. I guess it depends on how long you consider "very short term" but there's no way interventions that people are putting into place now can be lifted before summer. But yes, be careful because the market uncertainty over the next couple months is going to be insane, simply because of those unknown effects on the global economy.

We're living in bizarro-land. /r/wallstreetbets temporarily went private yesterday, causing quite a commotion for about an hour.

Meanwhile, one of its most-upvoted DD posts,
https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/fit5yg/the_shadow_war_how_thursday_and_friday_set_up_for/
had its user be deleted during the time the subreddit was private (ostensibly because they just hit 1 million subs),
https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/fjb97s/the_wsb_war_how_going_private_set_up_an/

That user had a history of posting semi-conspiracy theory market analysis with a lot of buzzwords, some graphics and links. Either a real market guy with some unusual ideas, or, given his language and some bits of nonsense in theories, possibly a Russian disinformation poster intentionally trying to degrade confidence in US markets. Russia has a history of being active in popular subreddits, such as /r/thedonald, and reddit has a history of deleting manipulative accounts when it can be demonstrated they're foreign agents. So how wild is it that I'm willing to believe Russia's Internet Research Agency is actively posting in a meme-based stock market subreddit? 21st century problems, folks.

More likely if it's Russia they just took advantage of kids being stupid. It's a bunch of kids doing what kids do when they try and figure out the stock market, they buy stocks in brands they like and the ones with funny names. It's not a hard group to take advantage of either just have to be right enough that they think you know what you are doing and will make them rich so they can drop out of school.

On one hand yes the big bad election interference of Russia is like 90% just poo poo posting stuff dumb Americans are already saying but on the other hand you don’t need Russian agents to post that stuff because there are plenty of Americans stupid enough to do it on their own. In conclusion freaking out about Russian manipulation is going to make you sound like a paranoid idiot and even if it’s true they’re just repeating American garbage anyway.

There's a lot of people on WSB that keep thinking the market is being manipulated because they can't deal with being wrong. People that constantly find excuses for why their bets didn't pan out will keep hemorrhaging money. You need to see if there were signs you should have seen if there weren't well you were never actually 100% sure it was going to happen or you would have sold all your stuff and taken out a loan to take that position if you were actually 100% sure. You gotta eat the loss, if you find something you should have seen, hind sight is 20/20 look out for it next time.

The only sign you needed to see for today is trump talking out of his arse for half an hour on Friday afternoon and knowing a rally off the back of it wouldn't last. It may even have been insiders knowing the fed was about to bust it's nut on Sunday afternoon and they're about to get burned
