I looked it up and the first US death from coronavirus was Feb 29, and it's currently up to 87.

Current estimates from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are that there will be between 200,000 to 1.7 million deaths in the US, and between 2.4 million to 21 million people will be hospitalized.

theres not going to be an egg shortage for long. people were already eating as many eggs as they wanted before the crisis, and the chickens are still producing them at the same rate.

I think I might? Maybe? I'm in an area with confirmed cases, people in my office have been in close quarters with those confirmed cases, and we're not (yet) working from home. My boyfriend and I have both had a bad headache and fatigue for the past four days, but no other symptoms. I'm not sure if it's because I've been waking up extra early due to schedule changes at work and dealing with stupid people, or if it's something else. I have no fever or lung issues though so who knows. I'm a 32 year old non-smoking woman though, so if I do get the Roni it'll likely be pretty mild. After tomorrow I'm off for 3 days so I'll just keep monitoring myself I guess.

I'm on unemployment benefits but apparently the Australian government has fasttracked payments for casual workers who are now out of work, so a LOT of people are going to be on benefits. And this government loving hates paying unemployment benefits.

I've got an awkward feeling that I'm going to end up getting conscripted to the 'roni war and sent to fight on the front lines, restocking the toilet paper aisle in my local supermarket

Sorry but it definitely won't. When they start turning away the olds, they will blame "Obamacare" and it will push them even further away from the idea of nationalized health in any way, shape, or form. Any sort of care rationing like that is going to have a strong impact on a lot of people - it will make them do everything they can to ensure that they are able to utilize wealth and power to reserve their access to it. As always, the poor conservatives will continue to go against their best interests because they'd rather drink molten lava than imagine the thought of minorities getting things for free, and/or fantasize about some day being rich themselves (or maybe they think they actually already are). The only directions things are going to change is for the worse.

One of the Simspons scriptwriters who co-wrote that episode is SUPER MAD that people are going "Simpsons predicted the coronavirus!!" and went on a big rant going "HOW COULD THE VIRUS LAST 6 TO 8 WEEKS IN THE POST BEFORE IT GOT THE SPRINGFIELD OF COURSE WE WERE JOKING"

He continues, "It was meant to be absurd that someone could cough into a box and the virus would survive for six to eight weeks in the box. It is cartoonish. We intentionally made it cartoonish because we wanted it to be silly and not scary, and not carry any of these bad associations along with it, which is why the virus itself was acting like a cartoon character and behaving in extremely unrealistic ways." (At one point, one cloud of the virus waits at a red light when another cloud goes down the street with a green light.)

For real, Amazon FCs are going to be massive vectors if any of the employees get infected. There are already numerous documented cases of their warehouse workers pissing in bottles in order to stay at their station and "make rate," you know handwashing is gonna go to poo poo.

The big, shiny, new building in Grand Rapids, MI just went live on Sunday. There were at least two people present who have confirmed COVID-19 cases.

In all seriousness, COVID-19 takes 2 weeks for symptoms to start showing, and nausea is not going to be one of them. This is however a bad time to get sick either way as doctors and nurses are overloaded and resources are being stretched thin already.

The virus sticks to surfaces long enough for food deliveries to be a great way to spread it around.
