I've got stock to last for months, but wanted to celebrate finally closing on my refinancing with take-out. hopefully this whole thing doesn't cause both those places that were closed to shutter for good, they're legit the best chinese and japanese places I've ever eaten at.

we're still like a month out from poo poo really getting bad in the US, the virus can take weeks to manifest and you've still got masses of idiots shoulder to shoulder in packed concert crowds in knoxville and florida despite the warnings or in spite of them. Ideally the US would do what france is doing and forgo all gas/heating/electric/rent bills during the shutdown but lmao that'll never happen.

So although I'm not spending money now or anytime soon, I'm using my I'M BORED AT HOME time to plan for the future. Namely, the future of my display case. Next to my 10265 Ford Mustang and 21307 Caterham Seven 620R is a blank space. I know there have been all kinds of other great Creator Expert cars like the Beetle, Mini, and F40 that I could track down, but there are also some amazing MOCs that I'd kind of like to consider instead. So, tell me, what are your favorite Creator Expert / Model Team scale MOCs, preferably ones that sell instructions? My personal leaning is toward muscle and performance cars, but I'll peep anything you guys love. Here are some that I found that I really enjoy.

My front-runner right now is this 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera. It's a great-looking model, not too big (14 studs wide at the fenders and sub-800 pieces), and has some really nice touches like the cambered wheels. I'm comfortable with the builder and actually own a book of his.

There's another great Porsche 911 MOC out there, a 1964 model, that looks even better to me, but it has issues. If you browse the comments, there are a lot of people bemoaning the ridiculously fragile build, how some of the connections don't really work, and how it explodes if you look at it wrong. It's also larger and has over twice as many pieces. Still posting it here 'cause it's gorgeous, though.

I also really love this Lamborghini Countach. It's only 10 studs wide so wouldn't be to scale with the other Creator Expert cars, but they're not exactly to scale with each other, so whatever. The shaping and color scheme are so striking, and I love the way the glass was handled. Unfortunately, it's on Ideas, so no instructions, which is kind of a non-starter unless I feel like reverse engineering (could be fun I guess...).

Next up is this Ford GT. Everything this guy makes is incredible; he's an icon of this scale of building. The livery is a bit dependent on stickers which is a shame, but it would still look good without. The shaping is gorgeous, it's sub-1k pieces, and I really like it, except for a couple tiny shaping things here and there. Strong contender.

Finally, we have the Dodge Charger. When the Mustang dropped, a number of people built Chargers to compliment it, and three stand out. All three borrowed the steering mechanism (or a variation of it) from the Mustang, which is nice. From least to most favorite, we have: 1) this '69, which is a bit chunky and feels less refined. I'm not in love with the grill and the interior feels too close to the Mustang's. It's not bad, though. 2) this '69, made by the same guy who made that Ford GT. I love the quality of the build and detailing, but it was originally designed as an alternate model of the Mustang and suffers some parts limitations as a result. It's a bit too tall and not quite long enough, so it loses some of its aggressive profile. I wish this builder would attempt a 2nd version that's not limited by the original sets piece selection. 3) this '69, which looks pretty much perfect. The form factor is perfect, and I love how curvy the sides are. I love the grill, I love the interior. It's just loving huge. 18 studs wide and over 1600 pieces. It's also about 10% too big next to the Mustang as a result.

I can help when I'm at a computer again but for now my inclination would be to try the C pillars the same way I did on the 60s one, with a 45 degree slope into a staggered 30 degree, but if you want actual curvature there I'll have to think on that for a bit. I have some possible ideas but need time to gently caress with it.

Edit: I have a thought on finishing off those stripes without the quarter circle tiles, too. I'm so excited with these collab vibes.

Okay, so here's my take on it. I ended up actually re-using the same C pillar design, just with the sort of sloped underside removed and glass added in its place. I played around a lot with bows and arches and couldn't get a curvier C pillar that I liked more. As for the stripes, they're done a bit different, but same idea. I left your front grill and headlights mostly alone because they're genius, and I swapped the triangle tiles for wedge plates to better match the angle of the bodywork on the '81. Totally re-did the tail. I am not 100% thrilled with my inability to angle the stripes on the tailgate, but any attempts to do so made it look MAD clunky, or super ugly from the inside of the bed, so it's a compromise. Also swapped to smaller tires.

edit: I also really tried to make it work with the Speed Champions windscreen you were using, but IMO it just set the cabin too far back.

I'm glad you like it! I like it too! Thanks for bringing some kickass ideas to the table. This was super fun to collaborate on.

Build notes: like I've mentioned, reinforcement / strengthening is one of the last things I do. I mean, I try to do it as I go, but the whole hood area was basically hollow until the very end. I placed those cheese slope fillers for the front fenders on the flipped 1 x 4 tile because I knew I had to leave room for the stripe assembly, and when I did, I noticed that the 1 x 1 bricks I used to hold the cheese slopes were at a perfect height such that, if I swapped one for a brick with a stud on 1 side, it would line up perfectly to hold the stripes. It was just kinda serendipitous.

I used rounded 1 x 2 plates to hold the neck bracket grill assembly because that piece tends to have better clutch than regular plates and I didn't want the neck brackets to slip.

The whole bumper area has quite a bit of weight pulling on just 2 studs' connection, but a 1 x 4 plate could be added to the whole thing if need be to strengthen it. Or, more ideally, another pair of boat studs.

The wheels are ER0L wheels. Love that technique, but it's not mine.

I think that's it!

Oh cool, I hadn't even considered mashing wheels together. They fit the arches a lot better. An yes, I like the opaque lights better too.

In honour of the end times and all, I've started another project.

I've seen a few Interceptors at this scale, but none have felt quite right to me. This isn't there by a long shot, but I think I'm on the right path.
There's just so many complex shapes to try and fit on a tiny rear end model. Getting the rake of the wheels right will go a long way to getting the look I think.

Any ideas greatly appreciated as always.

Yeah they all work, I made a good Jessie but it's season 1 and you need a season 5/movie version where he's beat to poo poo and unkempt after escaping a neo nazi meth lab. If you google "Jessie el camino" you'll get the idea but it looks like you're on the money.

The head looks pretty good. I just found (and am leaning toward) this one, for the intensity and scars? I wish it had more beard, but the stubble may be better for conveying unkempt. EDIT: holy gently caress that head / fig is expensive.

For the hair, I like the messiness of that one, but it seems a bit long. This one is really generic, but hits the notes of "short" and "messy."

This is my main reference image, btw.
