I'm having an awful time at the minute but this crisis point could be a great thing in the long term.

Also kinda terrifying how closely the 21st century is mirroring the 20th. Hopefully the 30s go differently.

Just went over to the shops to get spring onions and coriander for dinner - it was very quiet in there, all pretty normal tbh. The only thing was there were no eggs, no rice, no pasta. But shelves full of pulses, dried beans, tinned fish (no tuna but plenty of sardines/pilchards/mackerel) Are people really going to be eating pasta and jarred sauces for months? It's loving weird that all the actually nutritional shelf-stable foods are left in favour of pasta and rice.

The kind of selfish boomer who is doing this do not know how to cook pulses, dried beans and tinned fish...
They are the same people who let their 8 year old sit at home on their own till 5pm and then threw something pasta/frozen chips based together at 5:30pm.

They also own at least two houses because they “need to top up my pension” and “pop round to see what the tenants are up to” at least once a month.

If you are on 0 income you can ask the council for a 0 income form which means you get housing benefit to cover rent and interest only mortgages *if the pot is still full* they can give out food vouchers and pay for gas and electric.

There's plenty of food in warehouses and there's been no major impact on food production so unless everyone decides to eat 2/3/4x what they normally do while sat at home all day there's no risk of the country running out of things when this drags on for months. No one needs to plant gardens or learn to cook weird legumes, unless it's their exciting new hobby.

If they give people a break for mortgages but not renting, there'll be a whole lot of people squatting by summer.

Just got back from the school I teach at.

Attendance is impressive as it's still 75% (still a massive drop) but with massive staff shortages, we moved to partial closure today. (We have several pregnant staff that were sent home and a few with health conditions).

Only 3 year groups are now coming in, but at the rate of staff dropping, my Friday lessons will be me in the hall with all the remaining kids.

This will be fun!

Interesting to hear! My students were mainly wondering why we were still in. If large gatherings are not allowed then why are schools open.

All assemblies are cancelled. Staff meetings all stopped. International trips off. Domestic trips mainly off too. Visits to school from anyone but Child Protection Services all stopped.

I just want to know when we get to stop going in. A fair number off today and it'll only get worse.

non-virus chat:

Thanks for the Roku recommendation - after some pfaffing about I have finally got it up and running (and now having the pain of registering all those wretched accounts for BBC, ITV, UKTV, etc etc).

Possibly the best thing is the Spotify - I can listen to my free spotify account on it.
Even though the sound on my tv is crappy it's not as crappy as my computer sound (unless I put headphones in and I don't want to use headphones all the time). I guess I might be in the market for some new speakers at some point in the future.
A few months ago, I dug out all my old cassettes and matched as much as possible to spotify either albums or pseudo-album playlists so I could chuck the old cassettes away.

Anyway, that's my non-virus story for today.

Ed - also, the hdmi switch works great :D Got my skyhd box HDMI and the ROKU plugged into two of the three inputs and single output to the TV and it has a remote so I don't have to get up and down to switch it.

Glad to hear that works.
What I found to improve sound quality for a TV is getting a soundbar. They won't cost too much, and will work with your TV, computer or Games Console with little fuss.
I found modern ones (particularly LG) are good at making the sound even out, so background music and explosions are quieted but dialogue is increased.

Also ones with Bluetooth built in let you stream Spotify from your phones to the soundbar easily.

The entire videogame physical retail industry will be permanently dead by the end of the month. After this is done the internet, be it digitally or by ordering over Amazon or whatever, will be how you buy videogames.

The videogame industry as a whole is about to make incredible bank though.

The noticeable thing about COVID is that there are pretty much no cases of schoolkids dying, and it is pretty rare for them to need treatment . Consequent;y, no one seems to be testing them.

Is that because they don’t catch it? Or are they all asymptomatic carriers?

Can I ask what your school is using for Remote learning? (I’m assuming secondary?) We literally discovered Microsoft Teams last week and out upper management jumped on it. It then crashed on Monday from over use as organisations all over Europe started using it.

It’s all a last minute mess.
