Hmm. I feel completely fine but have no way to check my temperature which is the telltale sign for this.

I'll pass through at an odd hour and check, no big deal.

A few of the pharmacists we called recommended using a meat thermometer or instant read kitchen thermometer if we couldn't come up with an oral one. A meat thermometer won't be the most precise thing in the world, but it should tell you if you're running a fever just fine.

I went and compared the graphs just to see where we're at. Here's the graphs for the US, updated with the March 18 info:

Those curves look a lot sharper than the curves on the graphs for Italy I posted earlier but that's because the Y-axes are labelled differently. If we adjust it so it's using the same scale and superimpose the number of confirmed COVIDF-19 cases in the US it over the graph for Italy it looks like this:

The graph of confirmed coronavirus cases in the US follows almost the exact same curve right up to where Italy was ten days ago. It'd be a fairly safe bet that the curve will follow Italy's results fairly closely, but the two countries are VASTLY different in many many ways. Will the next 10 days in the US pan out better or worse than they did in Italy? We just don't know.

No. They will be tested for the common flu first. If you test negative for that and it is deemed to just be a cold, you will not be tested. You have to test negative for the flu and be symptomatic for Covid-19 to get the test. We are ramping up as fast as we can and have more analyzers on the way, but they are not small. We have drive through testing established with more to come in the region. Our arch enemy hospital has joined hands with us to test as many as possible daily and we are spreading any knowledge back to each other.

Nah you can totally take individual countries to task for their treatment of things and also look at countries that are doing well.

South Korea seems to be doing quite well; despite their dumb Christian cults drat near intentionally spreading things they test the gently caress out of people and have apparently managed well. Taiwan has done probably hands down the best because they got on poo poo super fast. Only recently did they pass 100 cases, and that's because about 60 of those came recently from overseas, still only 1 death, and they've now closed borders entirely to non-residents and *everyone* coming in need a well-enforced 14 day quarantine.

US and UK on the other hand are just garbage at it so far and while they may get lucky and not have too many deaths it's real hard to tell now.

Disco Pope posted:

In the UK it feels like we're just sitting on a timebomb, although individuals seem to be taking it seriously. It's just dull dread waiting for the drop.

But actually, I know that Italy's fatality rate is due to an aged populace and the spread due to a rush to escape quarantine before it came down, but is there any credence to suppositions that kisses as greetings and the like helped spread it?

Would not be at all surprised if this was true; it makes perfect sense and it's honestly a cultural practice that would do well to cut off hardcore in time like these.

if you could pop the glass off, then take the temperature of a non-fever person and mark it with a pen then you would know anything past that would be not normal.

Thermometers. Go to your local auto parts store and ask for the cheapest non-contact infrared thermometer. Probably a bunch on auto zone shelves because people don't realize it's a goddamn thermometer. Or rockauto, amazon, you know, anywhere else that sells thermometers for measuring exhaust pipe temps.

Just get an indoor outdoor thermometer and cram the outdoor unit up your butt, it's not unreasonably large and now you can transmit your core temperature wirelessly all day!
