Am I the only one who will admit to using those blue chemical pellets everywhere, and then having bird feeders with blue chemical pellets going in a circle round the base?

I have a ongoing snail infestation and switched to vindictive chemical warfare after one year of playing nice.

This has inspired me to look up growing cabbages ('cos cabbages are cool) and growing stuff is apparently a lot more complicated than I was expecting. Seasonal timings, transplantation, soil ph, previous stuff grown in the soil, parasites, sunlight exposure... I always assumed you just stuck the seeds in the soil and they turned into food after the appropriate time interval.

Do it! It's not that complex. Just plant stuff. Then if it all gets eaten plant more stuff! I grow hundreds of chilli plants and make my own hot sauce. In Spain everything grew like mad and we then lost everything not a chilli plant so we set up a plan for the next season...

Then everything fell apart and I had to bin all our tomato crop and we had a good cry as we were moving. I'm keen to get my veg on, But you really don't have to go crazy. Just find a warm windowsill and plant some seeds in yoghurt pots or those planters from a supermarket then repot them into progressively larger pots. It becomes an addiction

Weirdly enough I think there's a kit you can buy from the post office? Otherwise contact Citizens Advice Bureau or check their website and they should be able to give more details about making a legal will.

Yeah, if the circumstances are simple enough then one of the off-the-shelf packs will be more than enough - I think my mum got hers from WHSmiths, but I'm sure the Post Office ones will be identical.

To be honest if you're leaving everything to one person, then just sign a bit of paper saying so, and have a witness do the same. You definitely don't need to get a solicitor involved or anything like that, but make sure it's stored somewhere safely.

If you do want to use a solicitor, then some charities have arrangements with solicitors that they will cover £100 towards the cost. The hope is you will leave something to them in your will, but there's no compulsion to do so. I had a solicitor-drawn will and with that arrangement, it cost me just £12. Though my affairs were very straightforward at that point - a couple of years ago - as I didn't own any property at that point, don't have any dependents. Just left everything in equal shares to my siblings.

And don't forget - you can't use someone as a witness who you plan to benefit from the will. But they can be an executor.

I think it's important science worth waiting for if you're considering the chicken pox strategy.

Don't worry too much about a lockdown though. In other countries they're allowing essential travel and I think "i'm moving house" would qualify. So I don't think you need to drop everything and move out tomorrow.

Hmm. In Wuhan they didn't but I imagine we'd follow the Italian example most likely, where essential travel was still permitted.

This is a big one because the absolute worst case scenario (well, short of dying) is being trapped here for the next 2-3 months.
