I feel like goons itt are definitly cabin fevering right now. We'll get through this, try to keep a calm head friends. Re: cooking. I was joking a few days ago that this virus will propably be responsible for the Renaissance of German cuisine, which is known for being, well, not very good. Something to remember is to get some veggies and fruit into your stockpiles, if you've got some freezer space you can buy a lot of frozen stuff and use it poco a poco when you need it. Basic veggie cooking tip: oven roast it. Take room temperature veggies, throw them in a bowl, season with olive oil, salt, pepper and spices and then just throw em in an oven until they brown. Almost everything will taste delicious and it's extremely easy to make. My girl and I are trying to make the best of the quarantine and are cooking a lot. We've made veggie spaghetti Bolognese, savory pancakes, mushroom pizza and Chilean beans with rice so far, and it's making things more bearable to spend some fun time cooking together.

I can always use more chili sauce. The instant noodle aisle was cleaned out as well. I respect the people who went in and got 50 instant noodles, a bottle of sriacha, and knew they would be fine for the next two weeks.

i'm not going for the canned foods and instant noodles route cos i'll just start getting bloated and fatter and feel like poo poo while cooped up in the house. if anything i'm being more conscious of eating properly, buying veg + keeping my calories on the low side, so that i don't end up being more mentally depressed by this stuff than i need to. feeling like a fat sack of poo poo really bums you out when otherwise you might be in a good mood.

Yeah the canned goods are just there if you absolutely can't leave the house for whatever reason or if the store is actually just out of stuff. They last forever so they're a last resort

Yes, the idea of stocking up on non-perishables is that you stick them in the back of your pantry and keep eating normally until you need them for whatever reason.

Southern German food is pretty cool, but as a northener our food is stuff that feeds you during long winters when you don't have access to anything fresh, and that's gonna be meat, cabbage and potatoes for the most part. It's extremely heavy too.

When I get out of quarantine I'm going to head over to the local Asian supermarket and see how they're doing for stock. White people around here are extremely racist and would probably rather starve to death than step foot in there.

Last year I opened a can of snurring, a Norwegian MRE basically. Despite only being two years out of date the fucker was hairy. And yes, I checked the can before opening it, I always do.

So honest question: Has anybody else bought a gun or started looking? I'm afraid this schizophrenic response from multiple layers of government in the U.S. is going to cause some serious unrest. This is us reaping 20+ years of garbage news media and politics eroding the public trust. One of my salesmen at work and I have been discussing this virus since the middle of January, both of us agreeing that there's no way China wasn't downplaying the impact it was having there. Now we're standing on the floor, observing these poor cashiers as 300 strangers breathe in their faces every day, and wondering why the gently caress we're still open. We sell liquor. We're not essential. In fact, our entire function is selling an immunosuppressant! We have ZERO distancing guidance from our headquarters, and we are doing literally 200%+ YOY sales every day. This is a chain with over 150 stores making crazy money off of this, and we haven't heard a peep from company leadership since last week. It's incredibly stressful to manage this store and feel responsible for these people. I need them to come in because nobody's making us shut the doors, and the people just keep. loving. coming. The bars being shut down has made it worse. At the same time, I want to yell, "Stay home! This isn't worth it!", but I'm in the same boat, foolishly hedging against this being overblown the same way I sometimes have a flash of worry about going to Hell. We're all standing around looking at each other wordlessly asking if we've all lost our loving minds while droves of idiots file through the place acting like nothing's wrong. Someone give me some perspective, please. I really feel like I'm losing my reality baseline here.
