Just got a good start on the game. First impressions: Tree shaking works differently, and can be done more than once. Probably a good idea to go for as many Nook Miles as you can early on.

They will need to travel to yours, but cannot have their own place there. They're basically a guest. If they're good friends, you can tag them as being your best friends, which grants them some additional privileges, like chopping down trees and picking up items. Not sure about placing and taking furniture.

You can but it involves more steps like disabling the Switch's auto time sync and whatnot. It's not simply in the game like it was in New Leaf. Check the IGN review for details.

There's nothing sadder than someone convincing themselves time travel is morally acceptable. You can tell yourself whatever stories you want, but you know in your heart what Resetti would think if he heard what you were planning.

please don't go into animal crossing trying to minmax an optimal start or something. i mean people can do whatever they want but if you're absolutely 100% fresh to the series then don't spoil the initial wonder of letting it unfold. i only have half-baked memories from a friend's copy of the original game when i was spending the night occasionally so i'm going to let it all basically be new to me.

Give like five fish/bugs to Tom Nook and Blathers will call to set up shop. His tent shows up the next day and he'll give you the recipe for the shovel.

The latter and the latter, on both counts.

They have their own islands and their own Animals to Cross. More islands is more fun anyway I have no idea why anyone (with the option, obviously people who are single switch households are gonna have to share) would choose to live together on one island with basically one person in charge and the others as low class serfs while you run around tied together by the boundaries of a single screen of play.

I doubt I'll do any resetting, I usually just take it as it comes. Fruit can always be remedied by planting better fruit and any horrible villagers I will deal with the old fashioned way

Yeah, we weren't really interested in follow the leader same-screen multiplayer but were optimistically hoping for Minecraft-style multiplayer where we could all putz about on one world while popping on and offline. It's just not that sort of game, it's cool, it will be fun to see what these new to the series people do with their islands.

You should play Animal Crossing the way you want, there's really no min-maxing. If you like to reset to get exactly what you like, that is OK! If you want to just play and enjoy what the game gives you, that is OK too; it won't make or break your game either way.

personally, Resetti is going to kill me in my sleep because I lust for certain things in my towns

edit: For those who are new, the things you can reset for are not going to impact your game by a huge degree; in the past, it's been stuff like what color roof the community building has, the shapes in the grass (triangle/square/circle grass), what fruit you have, what villagers you start with (and your villagers can move out, so if you're not happy with who you get, that can be changed). So it's just looks, you don't get like bonus stats or anything like that.
