I'm not the most read-up on Vietnam but there wasn't really a clear "victory" the military could achieve, was there? The anti-war movement was in the right of course, but some portion of their support was not out of pure pacifism, but as a response to the apparent absurdity of that particular war.

yes but talking about it in terms of age means that you end up with stupid demographic arguments instead of something actionable

it's a classical mediator effect, we don't want to get hung up on it

Pure pacifism is dumb.

The anti-war movement was made up of a diverse collection ranging from the morally motivated pacifists, to anti-imperialists, to people who just thought the war was a waste.

yeah i agree with this take. generational warfare is not a good starting point but in this specific moment it has become shorthand for class differences due to the post-war era boom and then declining standard of living for subsequent generations. combine that with poorer elderly people dying off sooner and it’s hard to deny a wealth dimension to what normally is just a demographic age gap

it was actually mostly plaguechat, but for the short election segments they were saying Biden needs to start looking like a leader starting yesterday at the latest. I don’t think they have a ton of confidence in old joe at the moment but would never come out and say it because that would cost them a lot of friends.
