A revolution of beats
I am so hosed.

First off I am happy we are going into lockdown. It should have happened a month ago.

I get the keys to my new place Wednesday. I planned on picking up all new furniture and white good Thursday night. I gave away all my old stuff to friends who really could use it back home. Now I start my first day at my new job tomorrow (It's considered essential). I either have to ask my boss on day 1 to have the day off or I end up living in a house without furniture. I only got my contract on Thursday so no one can blame me for not being ready.

Just makes me feel bad to ask for something like this on my first day

What does non-essential services mean. Is westfield going to be closed or what

Supermarkets, convenience stores, pharmacies, petrol stations, and the like will stay open. The vast majority of retailers in shopping malls will be regarded as non-essential and they'll have to close along with pubs, restaurants and cinemas.

I don't know they'll do about mixed business. My local newsagent is also my local post office. You can make an argument that a post office is essential, but not a newsagent.

A whole lot of smokers are going to be pissed off if tobacconists are forced to close and they have to buy their smokes from supermarkets and servos. A whole lot of alcoholics are going to be pissed off if bottle shops are forced to close.

I wouldn't expect anything to re-open until after Easter. Whether things re-open then will depend on what the endgame is.

I sure wish there was some way to get tested. My wife's had a severe flu with every single symptom on that list since Thursday, and there have been confirmed cases at my work, but that's still not good enough for a test. I wonder how much higher the real numbers are.

Think of worst case scenario then double it. We should have been shut down ages ago.

There's a bunch of idiots on Facebook celebrating the idea that a singular council has decided to block 5G from becoming a thing and are pushing for the same in the Mountains. I hope they realise that most modems these days have a 5G function and we really have better poo poo to worry about at this point in time. They're probably the same idiots who don't believe in vaccines and will be taken swiftly by the impending situation.

Morrison announces dramatic restrictions on businesses
He announces tough new measures on social distancing, which will see some businesses close from midday tomorrow.

The restrictions are significant. This is only stage one of the social distancing regime, he says. From tomorrow, at midday, the following businesses will be closed or restricted in their trade.

Registered and licensed clubs
Licensed premesis in hotels and pubs. Entertainment venues and cinemas, casinos and nightclubs.
Restaurants and cafes will be restrict to takeaway only. Indoor sporting venues.
Places of worship.
Enclosed spaces for funerals and things of that nature will have to follow the strict four square metre rule which will be enforced.
Importantly, bottle shops will be exempt. They will not be restricted because they are not a place of gathering.

Home deliveries and takeaway food businesses will continue.

Tbh I'm quite concerned about income with shutdowns. I burnt through the vast majority of what savings I did have moving and furnishing an apartment of my own, and currently can't really work from home

I'm sure the government isn't gonna cover my $420/week rent for an unforeseeable amount of time and I've only got the basic 15 days' general leave built up

McSpergin
Sep 10, 2013

I mean I'm 3 weeks ahead on rent so realistically I could pay another week up and have enough to early exit the lease but I'm not really sure that's a financially sound idea either tbh

Yeah the lack of info about what's going on in QLD is frustrating. The ex wife works/worked in a food shop so she's not sure if her work is still open or if she still has a job at this stage as all the businesses nearby are shuttering so customers are drying up. No idea if our schools are done as of Tuesday too or there's still two weeks to go. Without any concrete details it's hard to work out what to do tomorrow.

Isn't the just-announced measures - everything shut except the essentials - basically the same thing as what's going on in some US states at the moment? Given that "a few weeks" is idealistic at best and delusional at worst, and given that home grocery delivery is still on the fritz and supermarket panic-buying isn't likely to slow down in the face of this news, how would you propose locking things down harder without hordes of pensioners starving to death in piles of their own unwiped refuse?

check out my new grindcore album, Tetanus Herd Immunity. if you can't find it, look for the album art, it's a bunch of naked people hurling themselves against a rusty barbed wire fence. it's really cool, i paid a tattoo artist twelve dollars to draw it and he mixed the album while he was at it. bargain!
