Yet the same nonsense is going around on Weibo and the like, whether that was where the guy heard it and was just his personal thing, or the other way around, or it's both and it's a coordinated thing by the party who knows. Some of the articles are just completely nuts, like made up places and numbers. Some of them look more "reasonable" (as reasonable as something like this could be) and are more like the guy's tweet.

It's weird though, because the justification for censoring Chinese social media has always been to "remove false information" but they aren't removing any of the stuff with fake numbers and places. Maybe the censors got the virus :(

I'm wondering if China is a bit afraid of the world deciding they got off too easy after being responsible for the virus in the first place.

people got overly freaked out over reports it can live for days on surfaces under "ideal conditions" which cargo moving around constantly and being made generally of porous material (cardboard, etc..) isn't.

A german study also came out that people were linking around that even eating out or getting delivery is pretty low risk as if everyone follows normal sanitation rules the chances of you being infected from staff or food is very low, and the much bigger risk is other patrons who don't wash their hands and are gross. So stay at home but don't get too scared about delivery or takeout.

No one talks about the hospitalisation% of those diagonalised with symptoms should be scaring the poo poo out of you at ~20% and that has not as much correlation to age or comorbidity as death%. Even one of the most awesome doctors I follow made this mistake and lowballed the threat a month ago despite that 20% was going to smash him.

I might be off on the numbers I'd have to go look it up, and I didn't do the math for how many people had 2+ underlying health issues. But I'm sure you've seen how 90some% of the deaths in Italy had at least one underlying condition. For 75% of the deaths in Italy, one of (the only? You know, someone who isn't playing Animal Crossing and has the time is gonna have to do the math) the conditions was "High blood pressure". The condition that one in three or so American adults have.

That's tied to obesity so there you go draw some conclusions from that.

it's not about assigning blame. in the article the younger dead patients are described as "relatively healthy". relative to what? given the prevalence of obesity in the american public, i don't think it's a major leap to assume they may indeed have been relatively healthy compared to the average person (who is also obese). if they were objectively healthy you wouldn't need to use that qualifier, so there must be something not right with them. by neglecting to state what that something is they are possibly contributing to creating unnecessary fear among people who are actually healthy.
