Some of the articles are just completely nuts, like made up places and numbers. Some of them look more "reasonable" (as reasonable as something like this could be) and are more like the guy's tweet. It's weird though, because the justification for censoring Chinese social media has always been to "remove false information" but they aren't removing any of the stuff with fake numbers and places. Maybe the censors got the virus

Better for people to assume they're lying about a hideous death toll.

But to check with DFAT closer to the date. So very likely your aliexpress stuff is either in a warehouse somewhere on the outskirts of Sydney's west, or just chucked in a fire. Anyway, didn't I hear somewhere that teh COVID-19 doesn't last too long on surfaces outside the body? It is mainly transmitted by person to person and close proximity contact. (As far as I know.)

people got overly freaked out over reports it can live for days on surfaces under "ideal conditions" which cargo moving around constantly and being made generally of porous material (cardboard, etc..) isn't. A german study also came out that people were linking around that even eating out or getting delivery is pretty low risk as if everyone follows normal sanitation rules the chances of you being infected from staff or food is very low, and the much bigger risk is other patrons who don't wash their hands and are gross. So stay at home but don't get too scared about delivery or takeout.

Akratic Method posted:"You will always see improvements in exactly what you choose to measure, no more, no less" is one of those really depressing truisms. This is happening with the death% even with doctors as they talk about how all the asymptomatic mean the % is lower while mentioning a couple absolute numbers in isolation. No one talks about the hospitalisation% of those diagonalised with symptoms should be scaring the poo poo out of you at ~20% and that has not as much correlation to age or comorbidity as death%. Even one of the most awesome doctors I follow made this mistake and lowballed the threat a month ago despite that 20% was going to smash him. "Durrr old people tend to die". Stop playing ping pong, go home, play videogame or I will send the police with flame-thrower!!.

LordArgh posted:i'd like to know how many of these "relatively young" people who die of the virus are obese I might be off on the numbers I'd have to go look it up, and I didn't do the math for how many people had 2+ underlying health issues. But I'm sure you've seen how 90some% of the deaths in Italy had at least one underlying condition. For 75% of the deaths in Italy, one of (the only? You know, someone who isn't playing Animal Crossing and has the time is gonna have to do the math) the conditions was "High blood pressure". The condition that one in three or so American adults have. That's tied to obesity so there you go draw some conclusions from that.

"You brought this on yourselves." it's not about assigning blame. in the article the younger dead patients are described as "relatively healthy". relative to what? given the prevalence of obesity in the american public, i don't think it's a major leap to assume they may indeed have been relatively healthy compared to the average person (who is also obese). if they were objectively healthy you wouldn't need to use that qualifier, so there must be something not right with them. by neglecting to state what that something is they are possibly contributing to creating unnecessary fear among people who are actually healthy.
