Meanwhile, in Trump's view, hydroxycholoroquinine is the cure, social distancing can end next week, and we can just put the whole thing behind us.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...83f0_story.html

quote:

But the push to reopen parts of the economy has gained traction among Republican lawmakers in both the Senate and the House, said two people with knowledge of the matter.

Conservative economists Steven Moore and Art Laffer have been lobbying the White House for more than a week to consider scaling back the recommendation that restaurants, stores and other gathering spots be closed, although exactly what that would entail remains unclear. Leading Wall Street and conservative media figures have also embraced the idea.

Trump has begun canvassing his advisers, GOP senators and other allies about what his course of action should be, according to a senior administration official. He is worried about the impact of soaring unemployment numbers and severe economic contraction on his 2020 reelection bid, and fielded phone calls for much of the weekend from alarmed business leaders. He remains fixated on the plummeting stock market, is chafing at the idea of the country remaining closed until the summer and growing tired of talking only about the coronavirus, one person said.

...

“The president is right. The cure can’t be worse than the disease,” Kudlow said on Fox News Channel on Monday. “And we’re going to have to make some difficult trade-offs.”

Also Trump is lying about automakers making ventilators, surprise surprise.

It's becoming increasingly clear to me that McClellan isn't entirely deserving of the reputation history has slapped upon him.

Mostly it's because he had the audacity to say bad things about Lincoln in letters to his wife.

He isn't deserving of quite as bad a reputation as he has, but drat if he didn't need a kick in the rear end on occasion. Or a couple belts of whatever U.S. Grant drank to give him courage.

Army commanders in the Civil War faced a monstrously steep learning curve and it's no wonder so many fell off. It also probably says something about the pre-war U.S. Army that the two best Federal generals had left the service before the war started and only returned because there was a literal civil war happening.

I'm glad I've been unemployed for three months. I'm really loving glad I started paying attention to the covid in early January when poo poo started trickling out of China and it started looking a little crazy there. I was planning to find a job again but that brief spell in the ward convinced me to sit back and relax for a spell and watch the world burn.

And I don't have a rocking chair on the patio. Gonna need to drag the recliner outside to see what kind of show I get here. If nothing else, I'm definitely going to be growing weed with trumpbux.

It's a much larger up-front payment plus $600/week for covid-affected after that. It's more than triple what Republicans were arguing for and recurring unlike the one-time bribe to get 1.6T in corporate bailouts it's also paired with way more health funding. Since it's recurring it also removes that leverage when it comes to passing the next trillion+ bill that will happen next month and so on because this poo poo is just starting.

There's also the eviction freeze, vote-by-mail, wiping out the 120B in "debt" the Post Office was forced to load up on in the 2000's, and doesn't have a 500 billion unauditable slush fund for Trump to administer/launder.

As someone that would be obligated to pay this back, I'd be fine with it so long as people who make less than me don't have to. I'd prefer if we just taxed the gently caress out of billionaires and such to pay for it, but that's not happening with this senate or White House.

Throw it into a high interest savings or CD account if you don't want it. Pay it back next year, keep the interest. You're welcome.
