Now I gotta be looking for housing and work at this time of year, in this part of the country, in this time of national crisis, localised entirely within Sydney due to travel bans. gently caress me.

Anyone looking for a tenant who can actually pay their rent and has some primo connections? I've been home/uninfected since the 5th but will get one of those fancy new blood tests if you're okay with living with a dole leper but not a covid one.

I thought they passed legislation stopping this from happening:

Also name and shame to ACA or the SMH. The local member would be interested as well.

Also it seems he cant personally evict you before your term is up, he need to get an order:

Yeah I'd be taking that to the real estate agency of NSW as well, the rental bonds authority. They could properly ream the landlord over that. I'd sit there until the law passes then till them to go and get hosed (from Nelligan)

Also a talk to your realtor possibly worthwhile. Legally he has no recourse to kick you out because as long as you're paying rent, you're not in breach of any laws afaik. Plenty of drug dealers probably rent places with no hassle so why shouldn't you?

Oh he is a drug dealer. I mean, who isn't? There is no agency or even written lease involved, been here 12 months on a verbal agreement

We are in the midst of a renovation, roof replacement. There’s a skip and building waste all over our front lawn. We are that house in the neighborhood.

This evening three kids dumped their bikes and scooters on our front lawn to dig around in the skip. When I asked what they were doing? Looking for stuff to make a cubby with.

I mean, it’s very wholesome that kids are looking for ways to entertain themselves while off school, but I don’t know if the liability insurance I got as part of this reno covers a kid getting tetanus from a rusty nail through the hand.

Sorry mate but as opposed to the things said above there's an important detail to what you've said here that bears on your situation - you say you're living with your landlord? That makes you likely to be a boarder and not a tenant, which means you don't get the incredibly valuable tenancy protections we have in this country. Basically if you live with the person who owns the house they can at will turf you on the loving streets with a week's notice. You're not in a great situation and you should be acting quickly.

I'm still voting in person for the sole satisfaction of telling the wankers who have the flyers to gently caress off out of my personal space. And scrawl over the ballots.

We had to let the new guy go today, is a shame as he is a nice bloke. The boss is just playing it safe and getting rid of new extras it seems now. I went over the stats for my department and I'm busier than over summer which is odd, also my projections are still going up.

We sacked the useless dude at the office who wrote a software that bloated out it's SQL database and didn't work properly ever.

We found he was saving the entirety of every packet of data received alongside it's sanitised and sorted tables, didn't use indexing, and actively fought against the software package we use for databasing because "That's not the way it should be done."

He filled out 100gb of data in 3 months, worst case for our side of the business was 3gb, and our software was the only place he was ingesting data from.

So, the virus does have its upsides. We gotta write a new bit of software next month to fully replace the one thing he did. I'm very lucky I work health adjacent. The biggest impact on my life is now I don't commute 2 hours a day and spend nothing on fuel.

Yep, we use MQTT for message delivery so he saved the entire packet formatted in JSON then in the same table the unpacked info from the packet then a million stored procs and pre-crunched data because nothing was indexed and a query that should have taken 30 seconds to run took 10 minutes.

Because he was an idiot working against the framework we use. We don't write SQL directly, instead going through a framework called mORMot that converts, saves and retreives objects from tables. When it stores data it indexes automatically on certain data types. He wasn't using the types that indexed.

Work is being pretty good to me and I'm mostly working from home. When I've started getting twitchy I've been able to go in and work on restoring a CNC mill in an unused workshop.

It's a Deckel FP42NC from the early 1980's and I really like the Alien / Nostromo vibe the CRT and controller has. Built like a tank and very accurate.

Gonna use it to make a bunch of pocket knives: Le Thiers style folders with antler handle scales. Laser cut the prototypes from acrylic last week. Design needs a bit of work but it's sane enough to get started machining fixtures.

Demand for this stuff is still strong as ever. My gut feel is that a lot of the people who buy this stuff are largely recession proof (although history has conclusively shown they are not guillotine proof).

Can't complain, it's keeping a bunch of misfits and weirdos employed while the world goes to poo poo, so we're lucky.
