There's already a ridiculous amount of misinformation that cycles around, don't add to it. You're absolutely right, and my apology for sharing that. Thanks to everyone who corrected it as well. I got it from a USA Today article that I didn't read closely enough and legitimately did get panicked about it.

Forget nurses, respiratory therapists, whose whole job is to do this poo poo can accidentally make harmful errors because of how complex these things can be, or because an alarm wasn't clear, or a dozen other reasons. No need to scream man, we're all stressed out for bigger reasons than internet discussions. You don't need non medical people changing the settings, doctors and nurses don't, leave that to RTs. Managing, recognising alarms and keeping people alive on a vent is something that intelligent people can learn to do to help out if it's a choice between that and letting people die while the machines sit unused. He apparently wasn't happy with my response and now we aren't FB friends anymore.

I’m still confused about the CERB. I’m a sessional instructor on contract who will be working remotely starting next month due to quarantine measures at the uni. However since there’s usually not a hell of a lot of teaching going on in the summer, I usually work at my other job as an auxiliary municipal employee to make ends meet. Those hours have been entirely cancelled. I’m definitely not eligible for EI but it sounds like I might be eligible for CERB?

luv 2 see "gently caress landlords, rent strike" posters posted up around my housing co-operative. Somehow after these people became members they forgot that we are a non-profit member owned co-op? Really hope the government comes through with some kind of support for renters, our budget can't afford $60k a month deficit and I'm afraid of my co-op going belly up. An equivalent privately owned unit around here to what I pay in rent currently is like $700/mo more

Luckily I haven't seen any rent strikes in my building but it kind of sucks that such a thing right now would screw us over big time seeing that we need those monies to keep the building going, and seeing that it is an old building we constantly have to do maintenance on it. Luckily it seems most of us are pulling through for one another in small ways and someone just posted a info about how to get money if people need help making the monthly dues and we do do some small subsidies for those who can't afford afford full payment.

??? If your landlord says "I didn't get it" tell them to talk to the government and write your cheque for $500 less. I don't think it's a great program but I'm not seeing a huge abuse potential.
