Yeah, maybe, just maybe, Bolsonaro may actually be impeached. It depends on timing. It's unlikely to happen now, when people can't go to the streets to put pressure on politicians, and it's also unlikely to happen much after the covid-19 quarantine is over, when we'll move on and forget about the past as usual.

So in the morning bolsonaro published an MP that authorizes companies to suspend salaries of quaratined workers https://www1.folha.uol.com.br/mercado/2020/03/mp-de-bolsonaro-suspende-contrato-de-trabalho-por-4-meses.shtml They will only have to keep paying benefits This is a move to force workers out of quarantine

Bolsonaro is digging his own grave. Unfortunately it's also a mass grave. By the time everyone but the hardcore Bonoro supporters finally realize "oh poo poo this guy IS the worst" a lot of people will have died. Apparently there's talk of sacking the Minister of Health because he's in favor of the quarantine measures: https://twitter.com/albertocalmeida/status/1242778691727491073 It's just rumors, but yeah. Brazil might be hosed. Bolsonaro and his supporters are evoking Japan as an example of "hey we can return to normalcy now", without taking into account that Japan is definitely underreporting cases, already has a self-isolation culture in place and is also supposed to be on the "stable" part of the curve, while cases in Brazil are beating the Italian curve so far.

Bolsonaro already got hosed over by this heavily because he has been ditched by others, like, even the army told him to get hosed after paying no mind to the virus and generals decided to consult directly with national sanitation agency and the ministry of health Congress is enjoying this opportunity to get him hosed and Maia knows he has the impeachment already if he wants it, Senate votes are in favor too

He somehow managed to use the momentum and go from Bolsodoria to the only opposition voice that is boosted by the mainstream media and is now taking the initiative by having the other governors follow his lead and take the Covid crisis by their own hands. He definitely is going to be the anointed one of the oligarchy in 2022 and worse, this is going to give him the kind of legitimacy and popularity the right-centrists lacked.

The Brazilian left-wing is so prone to in-fighting and ostracized by the middle class and the media that Doria is the strongest opposition leader at the moment. Despite being aligned with Bolsonaro during the elections and not being too different from him, just less lunatic and more competent. He may be the lesser evil, but that's a really low bar.

Ronaldo Caiado, a very old guard career politician and oligarch is also vying for the spotlight right now and is doing a lot of work to push back against Bolsonaro. Everyone I know hates him (myself included) but he's actually doing a leader's job in being strict and fast with containment measures. Depending on his results he might be a strong contender. It's obvious that he's being super opportunistic about it but given the current circumstances I can't complain.

That's where we are: the old oligarchs and even the military is preferable to the nazi psychopath in power In the north west, though, the left were not completely destroyed like in the south/southwest. Flávio Dino, for ex, might be a strong contender too

Elias_Maluco posted:Flávio Dino, for ex, might be a strong contender too Dino certainly has the chops, but honestly I wouldn't push too fast for a national campaign things being as they are A major critique that I have (among others) of PT and Lula (especially) was the total neglect to develop a left "roster" in the long term, thus ensuring a plurality of skilled persons across the country to carry on. Dino is far more important and useful as a governor to be carried into some eventual self-destructive campaign of course, that is considering things as they were introducing leftist thought to the military in a true neo-Castro/Chávez approach might be the greatest trojan horse ever, as I can totally see an upper middle class housewife defending workers' participation in companies after some lieutenant-colonel goes actually it is cool and good that workers have ownership of their labor

A Ciro gomes/Flavio Dino duo would not be terrible. Ciro is an opportunistic rear end in a top hat squish who never hopped onto a movement he didn't betray at his earliest convenience, but he's not dumb and has -some- notions of governance and development. And Dino has very decent and programs ideas while not directly connected to PT, the national scapegoat. Both come from the northeast, which can be an issue in winning the racist south, but Ciro has some penetration with middle classes across the board. Sadly, it likely won't ever happen because Ciro is still ironclad in bashing the left to try and win old PSDB/PSL anti-Lula morons. Which means he's either 1- Dumb as gently caress, because those people are GONE. No one is getting them unless their last name is Bolsonaro, or; 2- He's really that sort of hateful loon.

Everywhere people are reporting a lot of commerce reopened and a theres a lot more people on the streets So yep, unless a miracle happens, we are probably going to But also we are going to be fighting misinformation during this whole hell to even to prove anything is happening, that our friends and family are dying of it. Corpses are going to be pilling up on the streets and the fascists are going to keep repeating nothing is happening and that the media/governors are inflating the numbers and faking deaths, like the the great leader himself declared today and his masses are already echoing everywhere This is gonna be bad, very bad Elias_Maluco has issued a correction as of 22:58 on Mar 27, 2020 |
