Just starting listening to the Brodie lee interview with Jericho. So Arn was a big supporter backstage and one day just told him “I’m going to stop because it’s probably hurting your chances”  Vince just had it in his head “I think he looks southern. BETTER HAVE HIM DO A SOUTHERN DRAWL”  Edit: Vince literally wanted him and Rowan to be Demolition. Backstage people brought a picture of demolition and said “this is what Vince wants” 2nd Edit: people should never ever pitch anything to Vince if he’s eating anything. He just won’t give a gently caress about your ideas

Brodie asked for his release and they didn’t want to release him because as Triple H told him “it’ll look like rats leaving a sinking ship” Vince literally called him and said “I can’t let you go because of business reasons” Edit: aww near the end, Daniel Bryan personally called him and told him he wanted Brodie to feud him. Good guy Bryan  Edit 2: He and Rowan won the titles against New Day and Rowan tore his bicep. I think within 6 months the AEW podcast ads are going to be Hollywood Handbook level loving around. Tony and Aubry are kinda goofy, but I think they are going to start having more fun with it.

WWE would promise you a world title reign, your own private jet, and half the company stocks as long as you're stupid enough to not put it on paper.

I think the direct context was that at some point Raven reveals that he's putting the whole emo act on to milk money out of his mom. Hence the "What a mark!" smirk to the camera. I feel like if today AEW did segments where someone like Adam Page was faking sadness and emotional distress with his overbearing rich mom and recognizable wrestlers from his past were suddenly his brother and sister it would be like the hottest wrestling viral thing going. Raven was really ahead of his time. Also, I forgot he used to be jacked.

Everyone hated them at the time. Which is why it really struck me that like if AEW/BTE did it now it would probably get the completely opposite reaction. Some of that is just probably the time. Raven was an outside the box thinker and like that kind of meta/wink wink kayfabe breaking weirdness was just way outside what people were looking for at the time where now you have like BTE every week doing stuff like that. But some of its also probably just momentum and biases. WCW was disliked and the fail company so stuff they did that you had to bend a bit to appreciate was ripped apart.
